To The MSU Fans Giving Up: Do Not Count Them Out Yet

It's been quite a year so far, but we still have a ways to go

Dear MSU Fans,

Michigan State Football is having a rough year and I completely understand the frustration. I am right there with every Spartan fan thinking how are we 2-2 right now and 0-2 in Big Ten Play. How did we go from being in college playoffs to not even being ranked. And for most MSU students, we do not remember a time when we were not ranked in the Top 25 and still holding on to the dream of a Big Ten Championship.

Well, here we are in all of the situations that we never thought we would see in the Dantonio era. How did we get here? Well, let me tell you - first of all, we lost the winningest quarterback in school history last year along with the winningest senior class. We now have a quarterback who has only started one game, and yes he did win that game, but still he is not as experienced as we are used to. Second, we lost almost all of our O-line, which leaves us with a very young o-line who is not doing their job of protecting our quarterback. Our wide receivers also are very young and ARE still learning the ropes of MSU football. Third, our run game has been kind of struggling no matter how hard we try to get it going, so we go to throwing and everyone knows MSU football is not a very good throwing team.

Now, let's get to our defense. For the most part, we have a decent defense, maybe a little young in the secondary, but still doing their jobs for the most part. That was until two of our starting linebackers were injured and out until who knows when. We then lost one of our best corners and our star defensive player to a targeting hit.

It is not the inexperience of the players that is causing our losses, it might be a tiny factor, but it is the penalties for some reason we can not control. It is not having anyone to look for when we need a huge play or a big stop.

So, MSU fans, calm down - sure we are in kind of a rough year, but I think everyone should have expected to have a rough year with all the losses we had. Do not stop loving the team for a couple tough losses. Sure, we might not be able to win Big Ten, but we still can get a decent bowl game and turn around our season. We still have two of the biggest games of the season to come, and our team needs us more than ever. Sure, when we lose and are playing sloppy I am screaming at the TV to get my frustration out, but I am still a diehard Spartan win or lose. One thing I think everyone should know now, in Big Ten play and in the Spartans, you never bet against them, even if they have been kind of struggling.

So, MSU fans do not give up hope and keep cheering on a team that has brought so many great times to our school.

From,

A MSU Student

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
