I know you make him happy and that’s important to me.

My brother is a great man, always willing to help someone and giving his all in everything he does. I feel as though I don’t need to explain how great he is, because you already know. So, this is more for you and me. You see, I never had sisters, I have cousins and friends that fill that “sister” role. You may already have that role filled in your life and that’s okay, I’m just wanting you to know, that our relationship means the world to me.

Growing up I always was trying to keep up with my brothers, they played football- that meant I needed to try and play football. They went and carried buckets of feed- so that meant I carried buckets of feed. I was always trying to be like them. I went to all their traveling games and high school games cheering them on and I was proud to call them my brothers. And now, one of my brothers is serious about this girl and let me tell you, I’m super excited. This sounds crazy, I know. But growing up I never saw that “romantic” side of him and now here he is looking at you like you put the stars in the sky, you give him this weird smile and it makes me happy to know he found someone great.

Seeing my brother this happy makes me the happiest sister alive. How could I not be happy for him? Or for you? You found a great man, my parents raised him right. He is going to treat you like a princess, he will probably be a smart-ass most of the time (he gets it from our dad), but he is going to try and give you the world. I know this because growing up, even though we fought, my brothers always had my back, they were and still are always there for me.

I promise you, as his sister, that I will always respect you. I will support you and him in anything that you both do if it makes you happy. I will say though, when you come and visit I will probably ask a lot of questions not because I’m trying to be noisy, but because I want to get to know you. If you are important to my brother, then I consider you important to me.

As his sister, please promise me you will take care of him, don’t let him fool you- he does know how to do the dishes and vacuum because I watched him do it. Promise me you will stand by his side when things get rough or don’t go as planned, never just walk away. Fight for what you two have because I see the way he looks at you and that’s something special. Support him in his dreams, push him to be better than he already is in everything that he does, be there for him when he thinks he doesn’t know what to do, listen to the words he says, and love him.

I wish the best for you and my brother and may God watch over your relationship. I hope that you accept me as your sister, because you have no idea how excited I am to have someone I can call my sister. Welcome to the family!
