An Open Letter To Myself With The Help Of Bob Marley

You wise man, help to free me from my mental slavery.

"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; no one but ourselves can free our mind.”

You hold so many worries that your head might just pop. If a surfer tries to push against the wave, he will be taken under. To move forward, you must ride the waves.

“Rise up this morning, smiling with the rising sun.”

Wake up each morning and be grateful for the breath that did not escape you in your sleep. Even the dreariest of days holds great possibilities. Just like Margaret Shepard said, “Sometimes your only available transportation is a leap of faith.”

“Hypocrites and parasites will come up and take a bite. And if your night should turn into day, a lot of people would run away.”

You will not be everyone’s favorite cup of tea. That’s when you say, "Screw it, I’ll be a dark roast cup of coffee!"

People will always try to knock you to the ground, but they can't get break down the power of self-love.

“Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight.”

Whenever you feel that you are being too present or voicing your opinion too loud, speak up. You can’t hold your tongue because you’re afraid of the opinion of others.

But do not speak with ignorance. Even though your ego thinks it knows what’s right, you will not always be right and that’s okay; There are other voices that need to be heard, too.

“Please don’t rock my boat, 'cause I don't want my boat to be rocking.”

I know that fear still lingers in the back of your head, even though you try to fool us with your confident, red-lipped smirk. There will be some people that judge you for being you, but it’s okay because they are too stuck in their fear.

Sometimes you have to keep your own boat afloat.

"Let’s get together and feel all right.”

There's so much hate going on in the world, yet we continue to strive to live in harmony. You want to tell all the misguided souls that they have pushed their dreams aside too many times for a guy (or girl) that doesn’t love them, and they need to love themselves.

You want to tell the little boys and girls living in poverty to keep fighting because you know that one day, we’ll end this war of "mine and yours."

One day, you'll break through the tunnel and let your greatness shine and in return, you'll bring those who are trapped in the darkness to the light.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
