To all the girls who grew up or are still growing up with older brothers, never take them for granted because one day when you need them the most, they are an hour to four hours away and no longer just a walk down the hall from you. Appreciate the time that you have with them because soon it will go from seeing them every day to seeing them only on holidays and sometimes that does not happen either.
Having two older brothers that were 10 and 9 years older than me made growing up fun. I got to go to all their events and be surrounded by their friends and most of them ended up becoming like my “adopted” brothers. I loved it! I would not want to have traded it for the world. My brothers helped to make me into who I am today. I am forever thankful to have them in my life.
Yes, I love that my brothers are older than me; however, the age gap is tough because they were my best friends growing up. Now they have moved out of the house and even out of the state while I am left at home without their constant company that I had been so used to. I am happy that they have moved out and found a job that pays the bills and that they like depending on the day. I am happy that they both have handsome dogs that I get to call my doggy nephews and that I get to spoil them. I am happy that they are happy. But that does not mean that I do not wish that they were here more and that life was back the way it was 10 years ago.
I did not have the normal girly childhood that everyone would have expected. I went to baseball and paintball tournaments almost every weekend and loved every minute of it. I hate wearing dresses and looking all girly. I'd rather be playing some kind of sport and not caring how dirty I get while playing it. I do not care that I did not play recreational sports like all of my other friends. I got to watch my two role models kick butt at the sports they loved and that was enough for me. I did not need to play in a recreational league to learn how to play a sport, I had my brothers for that. Plus I would rather play baseball than softball, I like the rules of baseball better.
John and Patrick, thank you for showing me what to do and what not to do. Thank you for being my protectors from harm and protecting me from being hurt by some stupid boy. Thank you for always being there. But most importantly thank you for being the best brothers I could have asked for! I love you!
