March Madness is such a great time of year. I love watching basketball throughout the entire day, seeing the teams I love go further and further in the tournament. Basketball all day every day is my kind of month. I am a woman.
If any of what I just said shocked you, this article is for you. Here’s a few things I’d like you to know:
I’d like to start this off by saying yes, I do ACTUALLY pay attention to the games, know the players, and love the teams. And no, I do not like certain teams because the guys are hot or their colors are cool. Assuming these things because of my gender makes you look far more ignorant than what you’re trying to make me look.
I don’t need your play-by-play of the game to understand what’s happening. I pay attention, I’ve played the game, and I know what’s going on. I enjoy the game as much as you do, as shocking as that may sound. So stop attempting to explain concepts of the game while its going on, I’m trying to watch.
I know that Steph Curry isn’t just a name in a Drake song, and I know that he’s not the best player in the game. I know far more players than just LeBron and Kobe, and I don’t like my teams based on who the people I know root for.
You may think you’re “trying to help” by trying to explain things, but I don’t need to hear things I already know. Please realize that my gender doesn’t determine my knowledge and love for sports, your masculinity isn’t being harmed just because a girl enjoys the same things you do.
