Dear Mom,
You carried me in your womb for seven months because I'm just as impatient as you; I couldn’t wait to finally experience the real world. I was the reason for your nausea, your feet swelling to the size of a potato, your skin stretching and your contant complaining. You couldn’t climb stairs, you lost your breath quickly, you couldn’t even put your shoes on without the help of someone else. My kicking and squirming was the reason for your sleepless nights. Even after you went through excruciating pain to finally give birth to me, the pain never seemed to go away. You’re constantly worried about your little baby getting sucked into a dangerous world that will take away my innocence. I know every time you think about me going away, you just want to hold me again and wish you could protect me from everything that could potentially hurt me.
Soon enough, you will no longer be driving me to football games, doctor’s appointments and sleepovers. I want to remind you that every thing you do never goes unnoticed. You are not only my mother but also my nurse, my favorite chef, my muse, my superhero, my inspiration, my maid, my chauffeur, my biggest fan, and the reason I am the person I am today. You’re the most selfless person I know. I drive you insane with my constant complaining, messiness, arguing, stress, teenage drama but you drive me equally insane and it is why I love you. You're my best friend. I do not know who else I would cry to after a stressful day, call when I'm lost, text when I'm craving pizza more than ever, or trust with my social security number. You fight for me, struggle for me, put yourself second for me and and love me endlessly. It is the reason I strive to make you proud every single day.
Thank you for being my mom. Thank you for giving me someone to look up to. Everyone is only granted one mother and I am so lucky to have you as mine. I will never devalue your worth, and will always try to work as hard as possible to ensure you a future where you will no longer have to worry about your baby. I promise to love you eternally and appreciate you for as long as I live. When I go away for school, I will take every lesson you have taught me into consideration, think of every joke you have told me when I am feeling overwhelmed, and hug the stuffed animal you gave me as a child every time I feel alone at night. Most importantly I will call you every time I need to hear my mother's most conforting voice.
I love you.
- Your Favorite Child
P.S. I AM your favorite kid, don't try to deny it.
