Let Love Cast Out Hate

But one thing remains unchanged. We are all human beings.

Let Love Cast Out Hate

Over the past month, I have gone through my Facebook wall and seen hundreds of videos that make me disappointed to live in the world I currently live in. There were always those events from time to time that make me wonder how someone or a certain group of people could hold so much hatred to make them do what they do. But, recently it seems that there is no good among the bad whatsoever. It is as if the bad has tremendously outweighed all the good that this world has the capacity to hold. The world was not always like this; it didn’t need metal detectors to get into schools, it didn’t need the immense amount of airport security, it didn’t need people to live in every day fear that their world could fall apart in any instant, and it most certainly didn’t need the hatred that people hold in their hearts instead of love.

Recently, I have been questioning how the world ever was able to get this way. How could someone have no compassion or even the tiniest bit of human inside of him or her to take another innocent person from this earth? How could someone wake up one morning and say, “today is the day I will shoot people because they aren’t exactly like me?” How could someone disdain a woman so much as to rape her and blame it on one too many drinks? How could the world ever go from a 10-year-old being able to walk around the block by themselves to a 17-year-old being scared to step even outside his or her house? Among many other questions, I have realized I will never find the answer to any single one of these.

I remember my childhood quite well. It was full of life and adventure, or at least I thought so. I used to ride my bike or walk with a friend everywhere- to the pool, to the pizza place, to other friend’s houses- etc. I also had to make fun on my own by playing with things other than technology. But today, a kid cannot ride their bike with a friend without a parent having to be around for fear that someone may take them or something horrible may happen to them. This concept disgusts me. Today, there is so much technology in this world that a child is so easily open to hatred. This is exactly why bullying, victimizing, hatred, etc. is so much more prevalent today than it was before. This technology is showing off a detestable sense of what is right in this world. The world today is the reason why people are afraid of living. The world today is the world I would never want to raise my own children in.

Today, we live in such darkness and are quite often surrounded by so much hatred. The judgments people hold of each other now make it hard to live in a world where you can feel so called 'normal'. So in my opinion, this hatred has arisen from how our world has begun to evolve. While the world is evolving, so are people. But one thing remains unchanged. We are all human beings. We can not help it if we are Indian, White, Black, Spanish, Chinese, etc. We cannot help the way we come into this world and this is something we can not change. What we can change, however, is our outlook on people and the world, and realize that although people may be different from one another, they are truly the same down to the core. We are only human beings put on this Earth to make it a better place. But instead of making it a better place, we are seeing crime, evil, shootings, etc. If we could change something it would be to let LOVE cast out hate. By changing your outlook, we can step by step change the world. If we don't change the world at least the tiniest bit then I am afraid of what is going to come.

Try to understand a person before judging them. Show compassion for the unknown battles people are fighting inside, instead of insulting the way they act or the things they do. Embrace every day with a smile and kindness, for I believe that if people are surrounded by good it will eventually rub off. Remember that each word spoken to another person holds some sort of significant so love one another the way you would want to be loved in return.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate only love can do that." -Martin Luther King Jr.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
