Life is not about looking better than the next girl. Yes, we all want to feel attractive and it makes us feel good, but what happens when that is all you can think about? We all believe the idea, that no matter what we do in life, we have to fit the standards that are set for beauty.
People who believe that the most important thing in life is to be young and beautiful, live their lives not truly embracing what the world has to offer. Your mind becomes consumed by these ideas of imperfection, and how you could make yourself more attractive. Why do we do this? Do we really feel better after the issue has been “corrected"?
It becomes a never ending cycle of judgement and self-doubt. The happiest people in life are the people who learn to love what they have to offer. Everyone has insecurities, but when we let them consume our priorities, it becomes a deadly habit.
We have become a very superficial generation, and less focused on anything that doesn't directly alter our lives. Learning to love yourself is as easy as just reminding yourself of all the good you are doing, instead of the bad. As cliche as it may be, looking at yourself and reminding yourself that you are beautiful, can change your perspective.
Next time you are around a group of friends, and they start criticizing their body, don't participate, because you don't want to seem stuck up, or not be part of the crowd. Point out the features you do love, and focus on how they make you feel, instead of the negative things. If you set a fitness goal, follow through with it, because the less you accomplish the worse you will feel. You start to self sabotage when you begin to set goals and make no effort to actually accomplish them, but still punish yourself as a result.
Life is a mystery and the only thing that matters is your perspective of it.
