11 Things You Can Learn From Animals

Animals are amazing. There are so many things you an learn from them. Not only are they smart, but they are fun to be around. Whether you learn from your cat, dog, or any other pet, you can always learn a valuable lesson when paying attention to the furry (or not so furry) animals.

1. Unconditional Love

Have you ever realized that your pets love you no matter what? You can lie, cheat, and steal, but your dog will still come to you at the end of the day, wagging their tale, and wanting some love. Dogs show unconditional love by licking your face when they see you, and constantly wagging their tale any time you walk into the room. This is something we can often learn from dogs. As humans, we tend to not trust easily, and we don't love often.

2. Take Time To Relax

Cats are often known to be lazy. They lay around the house and sleep all day. We can learn a lesson from this when we are constantly running around town by realizing it's OK to take time to sit down and relax from a hard and tiring day. We all need time to recharge our batteries.

3. Be Kind

Animals are often kind regardless of the kind of person you are (unless they sense that you are trouble waiting to happen). Treat others the way you want to be treated. In the end, kindness goes a long way.

4. You're Never Too Old To Smile

In life, things happen. These "things" could be happy or sad occurrences, but through it all, smile. Smile because its contagious. Someone you know could be having a horrible day, but sending them happiness and a face full of smiles can go a long way.

5. Trust Your Instincts

Have you ever noticed how animals have amazing instincts? They can sense when a person is bad news or if its going to rain. From this, you can learn to trust your instincts. If you feel like you are in a bad situation, get out of it. When it all comes down to it, we are mammals too, and we are just another species trying to survive this world.

6. Protect Your Family

"Ohana means family and family means no one gets left behind or forgotten." -- Lilo and Stitch

Animals are quick to protect their own kind. If you mess with a mama bear's cubs, she will come after you. You should always be there for your family. Don't ever let someone you know pick on your little brother or sister even if they're being annoying. Family sticks together no matter what.

7. Food is Great

Most animals never say "no" to food. They know eating is an essential part of life. They don't focus on their weight or how many calories there are on that plate. They just eat. Don't ever forget to eat because it is one of the most important things you can do in your day.

8. "Wag More, Bark Less"

You can really learn a few things from your dog. He's part of the family, and honestly, sometimes we don't deserve dogs. They're always happy, and you should be too. Try not to complain as much, and start beaming with happiness.

9. Napping Is An Art Form

Animals are professional nappers. Sloths nap at least 15 hours a day. It is important to get enough sleep, so try to take some naps every now and then. It'll make you feel better, and you will wake up feeling bright and happy.

10. ADHD Is Real

Ever notice how dogs are constantly looking around, and they become distracted by the smallest things? Many people have ADHD, so it is perfectly normal to lose concentration every once and a while. Don't stress too much when you can't focus on things. Everything will be okay, and sometimes it makes for some good laughs.

11. Show The Ones You Love That You Care

Animals love with their whole heart, and so should you. You never know when the last day that you'll spend with someone is, so be sure to tell them you love them. Be kind always. Never be too harsh with your words, and love with your whole heart.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
