Keep Politics Out Of Football, Please

What happened to the days when football was football and politics was politics?

Football season has been my favorite time of year for several years, until this one.

Why? Because, much like every other random thing in this country, people are determined to make everything about politics in order to fight "the government" or "show Trump." It's starting to get annoying when I can't even enjoy football on Sunday's. I let you people freak out over breastfeeding and statues without a word, but don't take football from me.

It is so frustrating as a normal human being to try and watch my favorite sport - the favorite sport of many - and have to deal with people talking about politics rather than the sport itself. Instead of hearing about what team is actually better than the other, I hear about who kneeled and who didn't. I'm not going to change my ideas on teams due to that - sorry.

Last Sunday, I watched NFL and all I heard about the entire time was how people were either kneeling or not kneeling rather than being able to actually enjoy the sport, and it pissed me off to no end. Why can’t people just let others enjoy things? Why does every little thing have to be about politics now? If you're going to try and be a politician, get off the football field. Done and done.

Are there not better things for us to focus our time on, such as the devastation in Puerto Rico? Instead of zoning our energy on ruining a good sport, we should be looking those areas of devastation, or working to actually make a difference in our country. Yet, instead of focusing on true politics, we are boycotting a sport because people are either kneeling or not kneeling for the Anthem.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the idea behind the kneeling is a powerful one, but you’re going about it the wrong way and I think that’s unfair. Instead of working together to create an actual solution to a problem, you’re just pissing people off with no results actually occurring to benefit our country. Due to this, some teams didn’t even come to the stadium until after the anthem, which is ridiculous. Politics don’t belong in football. Period.

I’m sorry, I know this is a sensitive subject that many people are fighting with, but I’ll be damned if I sit idly by while people attempt to ruin the sport I love so much. Not only that, but since football is one of the biggest sports in the United States, this protest is simply causing a larger divide between everyone, and that is the opposite direction that we need to be heading in. Instead of working against one another, we need to bond together. But, while we do that, leave football alone. Thanks.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
