For years it has seemed as if Sundays were always spent dreading waking up to the sound of an alarm on Monday morning. You see, Sundays are significant because it is technically the end of the week. In your early twenties, Sundays may be used as a recovery day from whatever intense weekend shenanigans you may have partaken in. In high school, Sundays are used to study, and to finish any homework that may be due Monday morning. Later in life, Sundays are used to relax and to mentally prepare for the work week ahead of you.
My Sunday’s are very therapeutic. Many times it seems as if during the week we put our bodies on auto-pilot until Friday after work, and we are fully engaged during the weekend. So at the end of our weekend, it is important to not the twenty-four hours from Sunday morning to Sunday night go to waste.
As we grow older, it is important for us as humans to take time for ourselves. We spend so much time running around from work, to school, extra-curricular activities, social events, and much more. We have a fundamental desire to please others, and sometimes we have skin in so many different games that we spread ourselves so thin, and over time that can be very detrimental to our physical and mental health.
So what are Sundays for? Sundays are for rehabilitation, for recharging, and for preparing for the week ahead. What are some ways to accomplish this? I am glad you asked.
The best way to start your Sunday is with a big breakfast. Regardless of if you want to make it yourself, or cook for a group of people. Or go out and sit down at your local diner, breakfast is a key component for your Sunday, and it will help set the tone for the following hours.
The next thing you must do is get any and all work you have to do, done early, if possible. That includes school work, work presentations, and any and all obligations that will take your focus away from yourself on Sunday afternoon.
The last thing you should do on your Sunday morning is relax. The main idea is to get your body to homeostasis for as long as possible. You must let your body recuperate. Take a long hot shower, and lay down. Watch some NFL football (or whatever you’re in to) and let your chemical levels balance back out. Because it is important to recharge your body so you can attack the upcoming week with enthusiasm unknown to mankind.
Be well.
