It’s not surprising to most people that Trinity College is a party school. Although according to my friend the reason the college is considered a "party school" is because we are so small. However, small or not, Trinity College students LOVE to party. From Thursday night to Sunday morning, partying is the Thing to do here at Trinity. The frats are the place to be. Many students are known to pregame from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. and then go to the North side of campus, where the frats are located and really begin their drinking there. But, there are a few people who are not hard core partiers like our fellow students, yours truly included. So what is there to do during the weekend at a school like Trinity? Well stay tuned and find out.
1. Movies
Movies are the perfect alternative to partying. They are a way to step away from the studious student lifestyle and step into the life of another person for the moment. Whether it’s Netflix or just browsing a movie on the internet, finding a movie to watch with other non-partyers can be fun. In fact, if you want to really feel like you’ve done something worthwhile, catch up on all the shows you missed during the week due to your rigorous study life.
2. Have A Get-Together
We are all adults now, at least that is what we are supposed to be. There is no reason, why we can’t have a get together. I know it sounds all prim and proper, but it can be fun to have an adult get together with your friends. This will give you the opportunity to talk until 2 a.m. in the morning and not feel guilty about it. I promise you that you will have fun, and will not even remember that there are others that are out partying.
3. Explore Hartford
Since, I lack a car, this option is one I have yet to personally try, but I can tell you that once I get a car, I am leaving campus and exploring this city that I am cooped up in. Hartford has some great benefits to it. There are restaurants that you and your friends can try out. Go, explore. Find some places that you can make memories in.
4. Go to The Alternatives
At Trinity, we have what we call the Fred (a dorm that offers the an alternative every Friday night at nine to partying). There are also RAs all over campus that plan programs just to keep people from getting drunk and wasted, (I know because I was an RA). There are other events going on around campus, for those not into the party lifestyle. Go to one of them. Ask your RA to do a program that you might be really interested in. There are alternatives, even if you have to look for them yourself.
5. Do Homework
I know, after five days of classes, who wants to do homework? But think of it as a way of getting ahead. While everyone else is rushing to finish their homework on Sunday because they have partied hard the previous nights, you can relax and enjoy your Sunday.
Fun is what you make of it. What you declare to be fun can be fun. It may seem like we non-partiers are missing out on some form of entertainment by not attending the parties but honestly we are not really missing anything. All we are doing is creating our own experiences.
