It's always a great day to be a Tar Heel. Those who understand this and feel this so deeply only know because they live it. It's something outsiders can't wrap their heads around enough to understand. Of course, everyone always thinks their school is better than any other, but there's something different about Carolina. When you rep Carolina blue, you are repping something that so many others can't compare to.
Having the privilege to become a Tar Heel takes a lot of hard work and dedication whether through academics or athletics. Once you are a part of the community there is no looking back. Stuart Scott said it best when he said, "There is something about this campus -- the tradition here, the social life, the athletics, the academics, the pride of being a Tar Heel." On this campus, you are constantly surrounded by so much intelligence, ambition, drive, support, and amusement all in Carolina blue.
Every Tar Heel is proud to be a Tar Heel, and there is much reason to be. There's something about the atmosphere on campus that pulls you in. It's a community that knows how to party, knows how to sit down and study, and knows how to compete athletically. You go to a bar or a party and it can be practically guaranteed that the conversations you hold with people have substance and are driven by intelligence; networking. There is no empty talk about silly things. Going to an athletic event whether it be football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse or soccer, there is so much support and buzz about the Tar Heels, win or lose.
The National Championship game is a perfect example. Every single Tar Heel was excited about this game. Every single Tar Heel hurt deeply at our loss. Every single Tar Heel will wear Carolina blue with pride and glory on this next day, and every day after that. We don't bash our players, we support them every day rain or shine.
Wherever you go in public repping the blue someone will indeed shout, "Go Tar Heels!" at you. As Stuart Scott also said, "It's cool how Tar Heel alums realize the uniqueness of a shared bond." This shared bond begins when you first become a Tar Heel and never seems to end. You're a Tar Heel born, Tar Heel bred, and Tar Heel dead.
It's impossible to fully put into words what being a Tar Heel is, but if you're lucky enough to understand the feeling then that's enough. Wearing Carolina blue is a privilege and will always be. There's nothing like it and that's how it should be. As always, it's a great day to be a Tar Heel. #GDTBATH
