Interview with BERRE1

Me: So for this purpose of this interview can you tell me about the night you were telling me? And give every detail as much as possible.

BERRE1: Alright so me and my buddies were just chilling here, you know like watching some TV as stuff. Playing some videogames. That is pretty much what we were doing chillin out and I think at that night I grilled out with a really nice evening like 50 or 60 degrees. So it cooled down a bit that evening but so it was the end of rush week. So it was like the beginning towards the semester. So everything was going on that night. You know parties every week here. Your normal week but your normal week of just complete partying.

Me: Yeah

BERRE1: And like our street turns up on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night but this week was like Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night. Than your thirsty Thursday night and than Saturday. So you definitely had a lot of vibes there. I think a lot of fraternities partying and stuff because we got fraternity houses partying up all down the street. The fraternity down the street is Sigma Pi. It was crazy. You dont think to much of it because it does not seem like there is not a things going on. But it seemed different this weekend because I guess the Friday all the fraternities wanted to bring their dates. There was a lot of girls around and a lot of guys around. Im telling you like it just got crazy and louder and louder and louder and just ,chilling here. Honestly I was not doing much. I was not drinking that night but uh just people and more more people like a couple of a hundred people. down the street honestly.

Me: Damm

BERRE1: Yeah it was huge. There was a lot of people. It was the typical party setting like I did not see what they were doing but it definitely got loud. Pretty rowdy about around 10-11 o'clock. Main party started around 11pm or so. That pretty much happened. Besides that I had to take my friend and because he does not drive but lives in the suburbs I had to drive him and people everywhere. Cars are every! People drinking beer left and right from us. We ended up taking my buddy and the cops shut down the party. There were three to four cop cars coming.

Me: The average amount I would say

BERRE 1: Yeah some girls chilling at our front porch. They said it got shut down and the everyone was waking anywhere like where did all these people come from.

Me: Yeah it is like that now do you save living on a party street?

BERRE 1: Like honestly I do because they are college students. I mean they can do stupid stuff but like they are not there to be stupid but just drunk college students.

Me: Like they just want to relieve some stress right?

BERRE 1: Yeah so they are not wanting to do anything that is going to be like dangerous at all. If they are driving then that is a problem, but I had never heard of that but I have been here a couple of years.

Me: Do you feel like girls who just dont like the guy but actually just want to party just prefer that more? Not even going to music festival?

BERRE 1: You mean like if there is that vibe?

Me: No more like accepting a party more than going to those places?

BERRE 1: No I think they dont want the commitment. People just dont want to have the commitment on relationships. No remember anything the next guy. Lets be real: a lot of girls are using guys to get booze. There is a lot of social preferences. Getting to a social status and a lot of social implications going to parties.

Me: I think girls are very creative when it comes to social status like guys dont care about there social status, mostly. I think girls are masterminds to pick out the greatest ones in the party. But asking themselves, what my social status will be? But I dont think the social status will be like a raspberry flavored vodka or maybe getting high.

BERRE 1: I dont know my vodkas that well soo...

Me: Haha yeah

BERRE 1: We can't label names like pink lemonade vodka.

Me: So we talked about how you feel safe in a party neighborhood and you and girls going to a party to grab some social status...

BERRE 1: Well I dont think they are going to pick the guys for that but mostly have a reputation. That is the big thing.

Me: So do you feel that is a huge pressure to all colleges everywhere to gain that reputation as a party girl or guy? Like party on or study later? Or is it commercials having a strong impact on college students?

BERRE 1: I think you got to experience it like whatever is on movies or tv is nothing what college is. Like personally for me I want to study because my academic course loads is very huge but does not mean I am going to sway into the fraternity atmosphere. It is nice to once a while enjoy a party but the studying is more important. I dont find my identity in party. That is not me. Like some will be pre-Med students and get hammered before the test in the morning.

Me: Like I have been to parties and enjoy my self sometimes.

BERRE 1: Well if you are going to a party you might as well get drunk or drink a little because nobody is interested to meet up with you afterwards. They are all going to forget.

Me: Yeah I met this one girl and at the party called her lovely because I knew she will never remember me at all.

BERRE 1: Yeah there is a reaction and opposite reaction. People are hooking up at parties but at the same time they don't want to at all because you are drunk and never going to remember what happened that night. If you are going to go to parties to find girls or guys than there is no sense of commitment but it is college. It is the last chance for them to experience freedom before the rea world.

Me: Well movies or novels find that freedom in the real world. Like set an example how that freedom could be expressed in the real world. The premise for them is to find this fantasy. This is open fantasy where the person feels alive and well. Do you think it takes alcohol in parties to find that fantasy?

BERRE 1: Honestly I think it is it with the people you are around. When I am spending time with my friends I dont care if I am drunk near me because you are with your friends who you do care about. You can go to meet new people at parties but it kinda won't be the same.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
