The 2016-17 sports season has come to a close with the Patriots incredible comeback win. An unbelievable ending in a sports year where the unbelievable has become the norm. Fanbases were crushed, while others were lifted to incredible heights. We watched performances that looked like the magical endings of a sports movie, and loved/hated every minute of it. To celebrate this year of sporting madness, here are the five insane championship comebacks ranked, accompanied by the awesome video packages that are must-watch still.
5. Villanova vs. University of North Carolina
Poor Marcus Paige, who could have been the hero for UNC with his off-balance, clutch-as-heck three with seconds remaining, only to be outshined by Kris Jenkins' also clutch-as-heck game winning three. March Madness indeed.
After the fantastic National Championship Game between these two teams last season, hopes for the rematch were high. They did not disappoint. Alabama looked like they would continue to roll and complete an undefeated season, but Deshaun Watson had other plans. Watson's TD to Hunter Renfro on the final play of the game will go down as one of football's all-time great final plays. Now that Watson is gone, the question becomes: will anyone be able to beat the Tide this year? The short answer: probably not.
3. Cavaliers vs. Warriors
LeBron's block. Kyrie's disrespectful three in Curry's face. The 3-1
jokes. The 2016 NBA finals will never be forgotten, especially by those who believed the Warriors were about to become the greatest NBA team in history only to have their
heart ripped out by LeBron and Kevin Love. Each team now has a championship victory over the other, with a tie-breaking finale looking very possible this season.
2. Patriots vs. Falcons
The evil
football machine that is Bill Belichick and Tom Brady once again prevailed, this time in jaw-dropping comeback form. The Falcons led 28-3 (when added together equals 31, which all sports teams should now always avoid leading by) with about two minutes left in the third quarter. The craziest part? Brady made it look easy. As hard as it is to say, he really is the greatest of all-time.
1. Cubs vs. Indians
It looked like it was finally time for Cleveland's sports teams (minus the Browns) to shine. After the Cavs miraculous comeback win, and the Indians holding a 3-1 game lead,
Cleveland was about to celebrate two championships after going decades without. Cubs fan once again felt the curse of the billy goat weighing on them, as they have since 1908. Then something miraculous happened. The Cubs didn't blow it. Baseball's lovable loser became a winner and one that has the potential to be a winner for many years to come.
