I'm Plus-Sized And Proud

My curves are part of who I am, and I love them.

I'm Plus-Sized And Proud

We live in a world where girls are taught from a very young age that we are supposed to be pretty. Maybe not directly, but we are called "princesses" and we are put in pink dresses with our hair and bows and at the time it is harmless. My own mother loved to dress me up as her little dolly and there is nothing wrong with that. The problem lies within the media and as we get older.

We watch TV shows and movies of actors and actresses that all look the same. They are all people who are sizes small, medium, and maybe large. If a character is plus sized it is always commented on and looked at either as a joke or a tragedy. Society makes it seem as though it is bad and unattractive to be a heavy woman.

Of course, it is important to stay healthy, however, most plus sized ladies are in fact very healthy. There are many reasons why women may be overweight but are in general very healthy. So stop telling us to eat a salad or go to the gym because chances are, we eat healthy and do in fact exercise. Oh, and stop telling skinny girls to eat a cheeseburger too, I mean come on.

Why is it that big girls are always encouraged to lose weight? Why aren't we encouraged to love ourselves and our bodies? Why do we tiptoe around the word fat? Sure there are more attractive words to use, but being fat is not a crime. In fact, I'll say it right now. I am fat and I am beautiful. Oh God, how dare me, right? My curves are part of who I am, and I love them.

I consider myself very lucky. I have a supportive family and amazing friends. Nobody that I love has ever made fun of me for my weight. However, in the real world, I have to go out and shop at stores that sell plus sizes, and deal with some people looking at me funny. What? What is so funny about a fat girl and her skinny friends being on the beach? Does my body make you uncomfortable? Don't answer that.

Nobody has any right judging my body or telling me what I should or shouldn't wear. Nobody has the right to tell me I need to lose weight, because to be honest sure, losing a few pounds would be beneficial, who doesn't want to lose a healthy amount of weight to be healthy. However, when I do manage to lose a little bit of weight, I don't do it because I hate my body. If i stayed this size the rest of my life I would still be happy. Because at the end of the day, looks don't mean anything.

So love your body. Wear a crop top and let your skin be seen. We only have one life to live so instead of worrying about other people and other peoples bodies, worry about being happy. Wear your size XXXL clothes for the world to see. Do not be ashamed of being plus sized, because that is nothing to be ashamed of. Be proud of who you are as a person and be proud of your plus sized body. We are all beautiful. Let's start bringing each other up instead of tearing each other down. Your curves are beautiful, but who you are on the inside is even more beautiful. So yeah, I am plus sized and proud.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
