I am here today to explain that not everyone is a size zero, and that is okay! It seems that fat shaming is huge in today’s society, and honestly, it’s not something we should be proud of. However, there are certain people that wear clothes that may not be flattering to their bodies. Everyone is guilty of this. Maybe it was that dress from junior year of high school that fit perfectly, but we gained a few pounds and now, as much as we hate to admit it, just doesn’t fit anymore. Or maybe it’s an exact replica of an outfit you saw Taylor Swift wearing, but you’re really only 5’2, even though you pretend like you’re 5’4, and it just doesn’t work. As a society, girls need to start being honest with one another.
For example: You and a friend are out shopping for a Greek formal. Your friend gained some weight since freshman year and hasn’t accepted it. She beelines for the absolutely unforgiving bodycon dresses, unless, of course, you have a six pack and are 10 feet tall. She tries on some smalls and comes out to show you. In all honesty, she looks awful, and the dress is terrible.
When she asks you what you think, the correct response is, "Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about it. Do you like it?"
When she says “Well, i don't know, I’m on the fence,” you respond with, "I think we can find something better, let me look around the store for you."
Never say to her face that she "looks like a whale" or anything of that nature. It is important to boost one another’s self-esteem, not tear each other down.
If you are one of those girls who has gained weight, you have two options. You can own it and be proud of your curves, or you can go to the gym and work it off. However, you cannot sit around and complain about weight gain if you refuse to do something about it.
Size shouldn’t matter, your friends aren’t going to love you any less if you put on a few pounds. And if your boyfriend dumps you, cheats, or does anything else crappy, he’s not worth your time.
But being honest, in this world, looks mean a lot. Still, not everyone should be a stick and look like they eat a healthy balance of water and celery. Know how to dress yourself. I am a size zero, and one will rarely see me out in a bodycon dress or shorts and a crop top, unless minimal skin is showing. Be comfortable in your own skin, and if you want to rock that crop top and skirt duo or bodycon, YOU DO YOU, just make sure that they are the right size. No one is going to judge you unless you look like you are a size eight trying to fit into a size four. Make yourself comfortable and say fuck off to everyone else. I can promise that if you love yourself and are confident, everyone around you will feed off that energy and love you too.
