My Thoughts On Being Plus Sized

Talking about it is a touchy subject for anyone no matter what size they are, and I’m no different. My weight is something I’ve always struggled with and it wasn’t until recently that it’s become something I’ve learned to accept and love about myself. However, just like anyone I still back track with my weight issues from time to time. This past weekend, I finally had to do the one thing I always dread, jean shopping. For once, it wasn’t due to a weight gain but rather I had to buy them for formal recruitment. I started off at Forever 21, since they have a plus sized section, I thought that I’d be able to just go to one store and be done, and boy was I wrong. I ended up trying on one pair of all of the jean styles they offered, so about ten. All of the jeans they offered were high waisted and were made out a stretchy jean like material. Seeing as how I do not have a flat stomach nor do I have hips, all of them were a flat out no for me. I felt hideous in every pair of jeans, causing my self-confidence to plummet. I left the dressing rooms and thought that I should just try another store, however everywhere I went all of the jeans were made the same. While they all weren’t high waisted, the majority of the time they were made in that same stretchy material. With every pair of pants I tried on, my confidence just kept getting lower and lower. I felt so disgusted with myself; something I hadn’t felt in a long time. I realized that the clothes that were supposed to work for a women with my body type weren’t actually made for all body types. Everyone praises the fashion industry for making clothes for plus sized women, however they still expect women of my size to be of a certain body type. We are still expected to look a certain way. You have to have a flat stomach, wide hips, a large butt, thick thighs, and big breasts. My body is not made that way, nor is it made to fit into the average sized clothing. I had to realize that I was trying on clothing that wasn’t made to flatter the features I have. Society and the media are crucial on everyone, no matter the body type. It’s not only the fashion industry that is this way, even television is no different. Any time an overweight women is a character on a tv show, her weight is always worked in her plot line. Often times, it’s her struggles with trying to lose weight, or that she is deemed unattractive because of her weight. It’s time that plus sized girls are shown in a light that treats them as all other girls. If I want to wear a crop top, or shorts I should be able to, it is my body and I feel good in my own skin. My life doesn’t revolve around my weight, nor does it affect my love life. Just because you don’t agree with my weight or find me attractive because of it, doesn’t mean you have to try and bring me down. The purpose of this article was for me to express my own feeling and shed light on my own personal experiences with my weight. I will love myself if I’m a hundred pounds or three hundred pounds. I’m a relatively healthy person, I eat just a much as the next college student but my doctor never complains about my cholesterol levels or even my lifestyle. Yes, I could be healthier but so could the next person. There is always something you can change about your lifestyle, but as of this moment I’m perfectly content with the lifestyle I live. By societies standards, I shouldn’t be happy in my own skin, but I'll be damned if I let that decide how I feel about myself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
