We all know the warning signs of an 8:15 class. The caffeine hangover, the extreme dark circles plaguing the underside of the eyes, and lastly, the tell-tale "RTF" that discourages pleasant small talk in the mornings. These are all signs that something very wrong is going on in the life of your average college student, and it all stems from the problem of having to get up before 8AM. So how does one survive 8:15 classes? The world may truly never know... but here are a few suggestions.
1. Get Plenty Of Sleep
Sleep: /slep/ (n) a condition of body and mind such as that which typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is relatively inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended (dictionary.com).
In case you forgot, sleep is a much needed aspect to staying healthy and performing well in your classes. So if this means skipping that last cramming session or failing to complete the last few math problems in a set, do it. After all, do you hear that? That's the sweet siren song of the bed calling your name.
2. Try To Rise And Shine An Hour Early
You want me to do WHAT? Yes, getting up at about 7:15 is a huge part of getting to class on time and being awake by the time class starts. We all know that we move a little slower in the mornings than we usually do any other time of the day, so why not take that into account. Besides, if you get up a little earlier that means you may have time to make that glorious morning cup of coffee or tea that you require in order to start your day off right.
3. Try To Eat Something
It doesn't have to be big. Even just grabbing a granola bar or some fruit snacks will give you not only something to snack on in class, but also the little sugar jolt you need in order to wake up after sleeping like a log for 1-10 hours.
4. If All Else Fails....
Skip class. Unless you have a test or a quiz. Other than those two reasons there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking a day off, and if anyone else tells you differently, stop talking to them, you don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
Overall, 8:15 classes suck more than a Hoover vacuum on cleaning day. However, getting up early is just a fact of life and at some point we will have to get used to it. However in college, feel free to complain, and feel free to complain A LOT, because everyone else hates them just as much as you do.
