Denver has its own unique sub-culture. You don't realize it until you start living there and notice how different it is from the rest of the country. If you are planning on moving to Denver or visiting some time in the near future, keep these in mind so you're not totally caught off guard when you first arrive.
1. Don't wear color
You'll see people wearing black skinny jeans and gray, loose shirts. That pretty much sums up the Denver wardrobe. Color is feared. The most color you will see in a person's outfit would be if it is interwoven into a flannel or if it's an earth-tone green. That's it.
2. Have a piercing
If you have a nose stud or nose ring (or even a septum!), then you automatically fit in. Half the people you might run into will have these.
3. If you're a guy, grow a beard
And wear a flannel with every outfit. It's the thing to do.
4. Be knowledgeable about coffee
Denver prides itself on its overwhelming plethora of coffee shops. Therefore, you must be able to talk the coffee lingo. (It took me awhile to get the hang of this, but it can be done!) Whether its a Saturday morning date or late night study party, coffee shops are the places to be.
5. Have an appreciation for the mountains
I mean you're in Denver so how could you not like the mountains?! Now I'm not saying you have to be super outdoorsy and climb every 14er in the state of Colorado (although that would be impressive), but you do have to make it a point to go to the mountains as often as you can. Whether that's to ski or hike or just explore, you have to take advantage of the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
6. Always answer any question with, "Go Broncos"
"What's your favorite football team?" Go Broncos.
"Who's going to win the Super Bowl again this year?" Go Broncos.
"What was the highlight of 2016 for you?" Go Broncos.
"Where do you see yourself in twenty years?" Go Broncos.
"What is the meaning of life?" Go Broncos.
See? Easy!! Think you're ready for Denver? See you soon!
