Hillary And History: My Six Winners And Five Losers From The DNC

We're stronger together; a 'herstoric' week.

Hillary And History: My Six Winners And Five Losers From The DNC

Boy, what a helluva week we had in Philly. Glad to see that it has coaxed so many others, along with myself, out of our panic rooms that the Republican National Convention had ushered us into from Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Among other things, the coronation of Hillary Clinton as the first woman nominee for any major party in the city of brotherly love brought an end to an emotional, powerful week that featured numerous noteworthy events.

I jolted down some winners and losers.

Winners:

1. Iraq War Vets

Khizr Khan gets this honor for having the bravery and strength to go up on stage after his son was lost in a suicide bombing in Iraq in 2004. Not only that, his attack on Donald Trump was second-to-none. The father of the Iraq War veteran slammed the Republican Nominee for his lack of sacrifice, and one-upped up by presenting his own copy of the Constitution.

Flint, Michigan

Jennifer Granholm is in this category. The former Democratic governor of Michigan put emphasis on how the Flint Water Crisis is an example to the Democratic committee to work together to find a common cause to fight for.

2. Latino-Americans

America Ferrera won in the Democratic National Convention. Speaking for all Latino-Americans, the former ‘Ugly Betty’ star took the Republican Nominee to task for his careless attitude towards her people. According to Trump, she is a ‘rapist’ because of her descent.

3. Michelle Obama

The FLOTUS gave one of the most powerful speeches in the DNC history. Her win can be summed up with her most famous quote: “When they go low, we go high.”

4. Joe Biden

The VPOTUS delivered the blow that nobody else could to Donald Trump. Biden likened the New York business mogul’s lack of empathy and compassion towards the middle class and lower with his famous line from ‘The Apprentice,’ which was ‘You’re Fired!” to anybody he deemed unworthy to take under his wing.

5. The Clintons

Chelsea Clinton delivered an emotionally charged speech about how close she was with her mother, and introduced her to ‘Fight Song’ by Rachel Platten, and the rest is history.

Losers:

1. Donald Trump

Because he took more shots than anybody during the week-long extravaganza. Did I mention his half-a-million inappropriate statements rom primary season through now? Well, that plays a factor.

2. The Republican Party

At the GOP Convention, they had such a negative view about how our country has gone downhill since Obama has been in office. If you watched the fear from the home of the Cleveland Cavaliers, you’d think we would be back in the recession that we were in between late 2007 to 2009. We have universal health care, gay marriage is OK; there is no reason to fear!

3. Scott Baio

Seriously, GOP? This is the best you can do? The Democrats brought out America Ferrera, Lena Dunham and had Katy Perry perform. Powerful response to whatever your party prodded out.

4. Production Team on the RNC

When you have a production of fear-mongering, anxiety-inflaming, and negativity, you should expect the ratings for (at least) the first night of your convention to rival that of a nationally-televised NHL game during the regular season.

5. Bernie-or-Bust Crowd

Sarah Silverman’s quote sums it all up succinctly:

In any competition, somebody wins. Somebody loses. Get over it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
