Last week, the Democratic National Convention took place in Philadelphia, Pa. It was held at the Wells Fargo Center and the Pennsylvania Convention Center from July 25 to 28.

The opening day, many people were in attendance, as well as celebrities. Some of the key speakers were Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and first lady Michelle Obama. As speeches from different speakers spoke throughout the day, supporters showed themselves it was worth being there.

As the night went on, signs flied high with slogans such as “Love Trumps Hate,” “A Future to Believe In,” and “I’m With Her.”

Some residents in Massachusetts suffer from drug abuse. Hillary Clinton went to visit to help aide in their situations to seek a positive outlet. The mayor of Boston spoke about his past use of alcoholism. “I was given a fair shot and a second chance,” said Marty Walsh. Walsh has been sober since 1995.

Demi Lovato, singer/songwriter, spoke about how she struggled publicly with mental health issues. “I support someone who wants to help Americans live a normal life,” said Lovato. After her speech, she performed one of her hit songs, “Confident.”

Earlier that day, Bernie Sanders' supporters were still in rage about how he dropped out the race and now supports Clinton. Some of Sanders supporters booed him with his first speech, but when he gave the second speech he gave that night, many people including his supporters were applauding him.

Some of Sander’s main points were about understanding the transformation of the economy. “We need leadership to bring us together and stronger,” said Sanders. Sanders hopes that America will come together in November, as he is with Clinton.

The final speech of the night was spoken by Michelle Obama. As it has been eight years since she has spoken on that same stage, she shared some valuable points to every person in attendance. The main focus of the speech was shaping the future generation of children. “Who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or eight years. The only person to be trusted is Hillary Clinton,” said Obama. The crowd cheered, as she spoke of how everyone needs a second chance, because everyone matters according to our Founding Fathers.

On the second night, The Mothers of the Movement were in attendance and shared a few speeches. Speeches were spoken by the mothers of Sandra Bland, Jordan Davis and Trayvon Martin to share their memories of their sons and the support they have received from the nation. To start, Bland’s mother spoke of the kind of daughter she raised and appreciates how Clinton has stood by all women of the movement. “I’m here with Hillary Clinton. She is a leader, who will say our children’s names,” said Geneva Reed-Veal. Each mother present represented the movement how Black Lives do matter. With the final speech done by Sabrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin added how she never dreamed of being able to share the life of her son through a movement like this. “This is not being politically correct, but saving our children,” said by Fulton in support of Clinton.

By the third night, several good speeches were spoken. Some of the speakers were by U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Vice President Nominee Tim Kaine, and President Obama. “She will stand up for gun violence and I am with her,” said Giffords. She is remembered by an 2011 incident that happened involving her when she was shot meeting with constituents outside a supermarket outside of Tucson, Ariz.

Once Kaine approached the stage, the audience cheered to listen to his speech. As he took stage, he began speaking on how he grew up, saying how he never knew of politics. “Family weren’t into politics growing up, father owned a business,” said Kaine. His hopes and dreams for America is change. He started out speaking about where he served, as Governor of Virginia from 2006 till 2010. Then gave remarks about how great it is to raise a child or have a family in the state of Virginia.

As he accepts the nomination for vice president, he is ready to be aside Clinton. “The brightest future for our country is the one we build together,” said Kaine. Towards the end of the speech, the crowd chanted “Not one word” for Trump’s signature slogan “Believe Me” when he says how he will bring change to America.

The last speaker of the night was President Obama. The crowd cheered as he stood before the audience. In his speech, he spoke of the great person that Clinton is and how she will make a good president. “She is fit and ready. To be president of this country, a person needs to be a leader with a plan,” said Obama. In closing Obama ended his speech saying that Kaine will do well as vice president. “Tim Kaine will make a good vice president for Hillary,” Obama said.

As the final night of the convention came to a close, it was time for America to hear Clinton’s speech. As she spoke of her own life successes and failures, she spoke of Donald Trumps. Clinton spoke professionally if Trump cares for the country or even himself. “Don’t believe someone who say they can fix something by himself,” said Clinton. Realistically, through the eyes of a Democratic, it usually takes everyone in a community to help shape a child going through their adolescent years.

As in last weeks Republican National Convention, Trump did not list some of the ways he plans to help make America better. Clinton made points to make America better. She made known that people with disabilities need to be offered education as anyone else. That nobody should get through life by themselves. “The struggles of citizens that have a concern should be a concern of your president too,” said Clinton. As her speech came to a close, she accepted the nomination as president of the USA. Then everyone began chanting “HILLARY” over and over again.

The Democratic National Convention has been an incredible week with a lot of valuable information for everyone to understand. Each speaker that spoke gave their personal reason as to why Clinton should take the first seat and become the next president. With election day approaching soon, consider someone who will perform the job the correct way by continuing to stand on the principles of America.
