Why High School Is Not The Best 4 Years Of Your Life

To say that you've already had the best years of your life when you've only been driving for a couple years is absurd.

It's been said plenty of times that high school will be the best four years of your life. However, I have been out of high school for a few years now and I can definitely say from my perspective, high school was not the best four years of my life. Even though I was a straight-A student, had friends and had a good experience, that didn't make it the best four years of my entire life. Here are some reasons why I can attest to this being true.

High school is full of drama.

There are so many fights and drama filled discussions about each other in the hallways. The number of Twitter fights during my high school years were too numerous to count and the number of times I've seen girls cry because of what someone said about them is too high. I'm so thankful my college experience hasn't been this way.

Everything is a popularity contest.

No matter if it's homecoming court or picking teams for flag football in gym class, everything is a popularity contest.

They were the "puberty years."

Raging hormones, still developing, growing into your own body, etc. These are terrible, awkward and horrific years that no one wants to repeat.

High school did not prepare you for college. At all.

The difference in high school work and college work is incomparable. I barely had to study in high school for any classes, and in college, my grades depend on studying for hours every day. I was never challenged and I never had a goal to reach for. There is a difference between getting an easy A and earning an A because you worked for it.

Boys are so dumb.

High school boys have no clue what they're doing and have no sense of how girls think or feel. Dating in high school wasn't something I ever strived to do. I knew that the boys there only cared about one thing and that wasn't about having a future with me. And unfortunately, it doesn't get a whole lot better after high school either.

There is so much more life to live.

Most high school graduates are around 17-18 years old. To say that you've already had the best years of your life when you've only been driving for a couple years is absurd. Wait until you walk down the aisle or see your kids smiling up at you, or even start living on your own and being able to sustain yourself. Then we can talk.

There is still so much you don't know.

High school only gives you a basic education that doesn't stretch how far you can go and how much you can learn. Whether you decide to go to college, work full-time, travel, or go off in the military, I promise you will learn so much more than what you ever did in high school.

High school wasn't the best four years of my life and I'm honestly glad they weren't. Yes, I had fun and yes I miss going to the home football games from time to time, but there isn't a chance that I would want to do it all over again even if I could.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
