Presently, the art of giving can be difficult to obtain and master.
We live in such a superficial world consumed by materialistic things that control our thoughts and decisions making. For me, I have found emptiness in those things. Social media doesn't appeal to me as it used to and having the latest and greatest fashion item just seems mediocre. Even getting some job in a sales company seems mediocre to me (although, personally I am not good at sales so that's why I don't like it).
As a quadruplet, sharing materialistic things was quite difficult.
There are times when all of us were insanely jealous of each other and tried to out compete the other sibling trough any means necessary. I guarantee there were no blood baths, but I believe there was a loss of redeeming qualities that only now I'm starting to realize I do not have.
To master the art of giving, one must know who they are as a person and a giver.
I for one am not very giving. I like to save my treasures, like a dragon with a mountain of gold in its cave, always in a deep slumber while the world continues to thrive. In my journey of self-acceptance, I have found myself to be shy, impatient, and unfriendly. I hardly feel like I have given more in my life because of my impatient nature. However, if I do want to give more, I should also seek the positive qualities I have.
I have found myself to be kind, willing, and clever. With these qualities, I established new friendships and learned to be more open to change. I know that not everyone is the same, but we all go into the tunnel of life and face challenges we must overcome. At certain times, we face those challenges together.
There is that question though, about the motivation of giving; are people doing it to feel better about themselves or is it because they are really wanting to serve their community?
I believe the answer is both. To not fall into the pit hole of despair, I think a person should put themselves up to great heights while serving others. This includes helping family, friends, the people you work with at your job, being in the military, helping your community, and maybe even all of humanity.
Going out into the world and meeting new people is always a start when you want to give more. For me, I have had several people besides my family show me the way and what paths I can take. I do not want to just focus on myself, I want to focus on other things and helping others. Doing this, I hope, will put the world into a better place.
