OK, let's be real. Not every day is happy. You have bad days, days where nothing seems to go your way. Your kids drive you crazy. Your spouse drives you crazy. Your friends or coworkers drive you crazy. You might even drive yourself crazy. You lose your cool. You get angry. You get upset. You take your bad days out on people you love. You probably go to bed as early as possible on those days because the quicker they're over, the better. Anyone been there?
I have. Because they're real days. They happen to real people.
Nobody is asking you to hide the fact that you don't have it all together. Nobody is asking you to act like your life is perfect and like you never have a bad day. Isn't it funny how we only post pictures on Facebook and Instagram on the good days? The days where everyone matches, everyone's hair is brushed, everyone's smiling. It's as if we seriously want people to believe we have it all together. (I'm so guilty of these pictures.)
For those of you who look at everybody's perfect, put-together, well organized pictures, and wonder why your life can't be like that all the time, I have good news for you. Their life isn't always like that either.
Regardless of what you think, everybody has a bad day. It's just life. There are days when we want everyone to leave us alone. Those "please don't talk to me, look at me, or even think about me days" happen to everyone. True, you might not see them, because not everyone is okay with admitting that those days come.
But they do come, nonetheless.
The important thing for us all to remember is that even though there are bad days, sometimes bad weeks, even bad seasons in our lives, our good and happy days far outweigh our bad days. A lot of times, it's our own attitudes, selfishness, and failure to recognize God's goodness in the mundane of our lives that create the bad days that happen.
If you're one of those that posts pictures of only your happy days, when everyone is loving on each other, like me, it's okay. We all know you have bad days, too. You don't have to pretend to be so perfect. I think we would be surprised at the amount of love and prayer we would get if we were transparent about the bad days and bad seasons in our lives.
Maybe you are having a bad day today. Maybe you've had a bad week. Maybe these bad days have been going on for so long that you just expect them now. Can I be honest with you? Your outlook on your life has a lot to do with your days. If you wake up in the morning with a sour, pessimistic outlook on your day, I can guarantee it will be a bad day. I want to challenge you to wake up and tell yourself that you're going to be happy regardless of what comes your way. Be optimistic. Be hopeful. Pray for better days.
Maybe you're like me, and you're beginning to realize how many more happy days there are compared to bad days. God has been teaching me so much. Be an encouragement to those around you who are going through bad times. Reach out and be Jesus to them.
Remember, people are watching you. People are watching how you react to what happens in your life. People want to see if you're really what you say you're about. Can you handle the bad days like a champ? Can you accept that bad days do come, and struggle through them till your head hits the pillow? Don't give into that bad day. You keep fighting.
Next time a bad day comes, or if there's a continuous chain of bad days in a row, be hopeful. Be in prayer. Talk to God about it. Ask Him to give you patience and peace.
And please trust and believe that Happy Days Are Coming.
