In life, the most important thing to realize is how temporary everything can be. Whether it be bad moods, good moods, people, places, or things, not everything is going to last forever, and that is absolutely okay. Change is good. Change should be welcome. The leaves are changing all year round, and so should you.
I think a mistake so many people continue to make is to put happiness in their mind as a destination, instead of what it really is: a mood. Too many people are concerned about the day they'll finally be happy that they miss all the little moments when they are, that are right in front of their eyes.
Happiness can be anywhere. Happiness is everywhere. It's in the smile a stranger gives you as you walk past them. It's in that first sip of coffee in the morning, the first raindrop you feel, the first snowfall, turning to the last page of a book. It's in hand holding, hugs, and kisses. It's stopping in the middle of uncontrollable laughter as tears run down your face and thinking "it's moments like these."
It's at the end of the day when you can say "now that wasn't so bad," or "hey, at least it was better than yesterday." If people spent as much time focused on when they were happy as they did when they were angry or upset, they'd find themselves looking at the world in a much different light.
The point I'm trying to make is that I don't want you to look at someone and say, "one day I hope I'm happy," because that's never going to happen, and you're just setting yourself up to be disappointed. Happiness is a mood, and if you're like me, you go through a few different moods a day, and that's okay. It's normal, even. You can be content with your life, proud of it, and pleased with it, but you're not going to be happy 100% of the time. Things are going to upset you, set you back, make you mad, and even make you want to scream, but this doesn't mean your life is unfulfilled.
The best thing there is to do is to make the most of the life you have. Whether you're in a good mood or a bad mood, a life filled with doing the things you love isn't wasted.
Find a passion and roll with it. For me, it's writing. I feel the best when I am writing down my thoughts, no matter what kind of mood I'm in. For a good friend of mine, she realized her passion is photography, and she decided to make a [successful] career out of it. For others, it's music. There's no rule on what it has to be, as long as you feel good about doing it.
See the entire world, or don't. Some people find so much joy in traveling, while others find joy in being exactly where they're at. Both are okay, neither is wrong. If you want to travel, do it. Save up your money and just go. If you want to stay exactly where you are, don't feel guilty about it because people are telling you to go see the world. It's your life, you can see whatever you choose to.
Fall in love. I don't just mean with a significant other. Fall in love with everything. Fall in love with people, with the way they act, the things they do, the things they say. Fall in love with places. Fall in love with activities. Fall in love with the Earth. Fall in love with yourself. You may get hurt more than a few times, but at least you can say you did it.
Appreciate your moods. Appreciate when you're upset or angry so you can appreciate it even more when you are happy. Appreciate that you can feel. Love your emotions, don't apologize for them. Be who you are, embrace what you feel.
