Handling A Patriots Win Even If You Hate Them

Amidst all the Patriots posts prior to the Super Bowl, I saw a lot of Pats hate as well. For some reason, the team gets a lot of hate from the NFL community, and there were a lot of one-day Falcons fans. So this is for you, Patriots haters: a guide on how to survive the week in the midst of the excitement.

Personally, I am a Patriots fan, so I know it's a little bit of a stretch for me to say "suck it up." But hear me out. I'm also a Yankee fan, so I know how challenging it is to be surrounded by a bunch of fans whose team just won the whole thing. I can think back to the 2013 World Series when the Red Sox won. I was still living on campus so I remember fellow students running and screaming through the halls of the dorm because their team won. Red Sox statuses filled my Facebook newsfeed, and I even heard screaming in the streets.

Perhaps even worse was the 2004 World Series. Yes, I was only 10, but I knew who I liked and I knew who I didn't. And really, we can pull a lot of similarities from the 2004 World Series and the 2017 Superbowl. My beloved Yankees were up 3 games to 0 on the Red Sox...I think we all know the story, and yes, they choked. The Red Sox went on to win their first World Series in a very long time.

So I'm here to tell you it will get better. I have a feeling most of the people who were rooting for the Falcons were not even Falcons fans, so I challenge you to take a look at why you're angry about the game. Why do you actually hate the Patriots? Perhaps because you think they are cheaters? But honestly...it's time to let that go.

Think for a second about the magnitude of last night's game. Tom Brady came back from a four-game suspension to win his fifth Super Bowl. He (and the team) came back from a 25-point deficit. He has the most Superbowl as a quarterback in history. Super Bowl LI was the first overtime in Super Bowl history.

You might hate the Patriots, but I promise it gets better. Don't be bitter because they won, it only fuels the fire of the Patriots fans. Instead, revel in the glory of the history that was made in Super LI.
