If you’re a football fan, Sunday is the holy day. The end of a long, tiring week when you finally get to enjoy a full day of football. Here’s a guide to perfecting your Sunday.
Step 1: Wake Up
While this step seems obvious, waking up at the right time is critical to perfecting a Sunday. Odds are you had a long night the night before, which could lead to some oversleep action. Avoid this at all costs. Missing the 1 pm kickoff will absolutely throw your Sunday out of whack. This cannot happen. Set an alarm for around 11, this gives you ample time to get all you need to get done before the 1 pm kickoff.
Step 2: Adjust Fantasy Lineup
Even though it’s the weekend, and you’ve already done a ton of work during the week, the workload is not quite complete. Unfortunately, while the weekend should be carefree, there’s going to be some added stress with this step. Trying to make the perfect fantasy lineup is exhausting, mixing and matching until you think you have the best squad out there. Be sure to keep an eye out for injury reports, as well as key matchups, in order to give your team the best chance to win. You don’t want to be that guy that starts someone who is out with an injury, or is going up against a tough opponent.
Step 3: Refreshments
If you’re a health freak, this step is not for you. However, if you’re a normal person who loves to eat not healthy things on Sunday, you understand this step is critical. Choosing what food to get for the games is one of the most important decisions you’ll make all day. Pizza, wings, subs, nachos, etc. So many options. However, this decision needs to be made by 12:30. This gives you enough time to either order/make your desired food in order to have it at kickoff. Also, keep in mind other fans are probably following this plan as well. You may want to prepare even earlier to beat the pregame rush.
Step 4: Double Screen
Okay, kickoff is finally here. You have your fantasy line up all set, food ready to be inhaled. Now its time to kick back and watch some football. However, there’s one problem. You have to not only watch your favorite team’s game, but also your fantasy players’ games. There’s only one solution to this problem: the double screen. Its an essential tactic that all true football fans utilize weekly. TV screen on your team’s game, laptop on RedZone. Between eating and watching two screens, you have a lot to focus on. While this task may seem daunting at first, if you have enough dedication and determination, it can be accomplished.
Step 5: Halftime
It's halftime, you finally get a break. Get whatever you need to get done in the fifteen minutes you have before the second half kickoff. Bathroom break, quick homework assignment, take the dog out, you name it. Take advantage of this short intermission.
Step 6: Preparing for Round 2
The 1 o’clock games are over. However your work is not done yet. Another slate of games are right around the corner at 4 o’clock. There will only be one game on TV, so this allows for some stress relief regarding choosing which game to watch. The double screen maneuver is still in play. Odds are you still have a few fantasy players going in these late afternoon games. Also remember, another meal will take place during these games. Dinner will sneak up on you right around halftime. If you still have enough room from the 1 o’clock feast, plan accordingly.
Step 7: Will Power
As any football fan will know, you will be pretty tired at this point. Between eating, sitting on the couch, watching two different screens at once, you wont have much left in the tank. However, you must fight this off and find your second wind. Sunday Night Football is right around the corner! Do not, I repeat do not, try and sneak in the “quick nap.” This will turn into a long slumber ten times out of ten. While not all fans have the strength to accomplish this feat, some do. This step separates the boys from the men.
Step 8: The Final Curtain
Sunday Night Football has arrived. Odds are it will be a great game as well. The double screen is no longer in action. Only one game to watch. You are also probably about to explode at this point, so food is no longer a worry. Unless you want to squeeze in a desert of some kind. Regardless, this is your least stressful part of the day. Just kick back and enjoy the game.
Step 9: Completion - Realization
You did it. You completed the perfect Sunday. While at times you thought you didn’t have it in you, you managed to watch all the games and stuff your face with great Sunday food. You’re feeling pretty good about yourself. However, its about this time when the “Sunday scaries” come into play. This is when you realize you can’t be a football indulging couch potato anymore. You have to be a real member of society tomorrow and actually do real human things.
That is until Monday Night Football starts.
