Disney’s Animal Kingdom (or DAK for short) has always been one of my favorite Disney theme parks. It’s broken into different lands – Africa, Asia, Dinoland U.S.A, and more – that depict different places around the world, as well as different time periods. To me, animals have always been absolutely fascinating.
Animals are also pretty integral to Disney in general – after all, Mickey Mouse: Need I say more? With film releases like "Zootopia," "Bolt," and "The Jungle Book" as well as the in-construction Pandora: the land of "Avatar," this is truly a gemstone of a park.
Here are five things that you should check out on your next trip to DAK.
1. Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest is the fastest, most intimidating ride in DAK. Picture this: You are an explorer roaming the mountains, when all of a sudden things take a turn for the worst. You find yourself face to face with the fabled Yeti. Not only is this ride absolutely stunning, but its queue also boasts a small museum full of Yeti lore and Asian culture.
2. "Finding Nemo: The Musical"

I know, it sounds crazy, however, this is one of the best live performances I’ve seen to-date, and I’ve seen "Phantom" on Broadway. "Finding Nemo: The Musical" is an almost frame-for-frame remake of the Disney film; however, it brings a lot of new things to the table. Aside from the catchy music and dream-like set, its actors and actresses work larger-than-life puppets of Nemo and friends and it’s something you have to see to believe.
3. Yak & Yeti and Restaurantosaurus

DAK boasts a lot of absolutely stunning things, but one of the most unique experiences that the park has to offer are its eateries; Yak & Yeti is located in Asia and is themed to a home in the town of Anandapur that’s been converted to a hotel. Not only does it offer the most delicious Fried Cream Cheese Wontons, but after eating an exotic lunch, guests can watch the Jammin’ Jungle Parade right from the restaurant! It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been to this particular restaurant in the park, but it’s an absolute blast.

Restaurantosaurus is perhaps the most uniquely themed restaurants that I’ve ever been too; with wacky colors and stunning photographs and drawings, the cabin-style interior is a great place to cool off for a mid-day lunch. The food is also pretty good as well!
4. Kilimanjaro Safaris

Who doesn’t want to go on an African safari? I’ve found that the best time to go is soon after the park opens, mainly because all of the animals are out and about after their morning routines. DAK has some of the most beautiful animals ever, from elephants to gazelles and everything in between, you’re sure to find something that you love. One of my favorite things about this particular attraction is that the guides know their stuff about all of the individual animals, and above each seat is a guide to all of the animals that you may see on your safari.
5. Kali River Rapids

Kali River Rapids is both a ride and a learning experience. Look, learning isn’t always a bad thing. The ride takes you down a river, through a rainforest and shows you the devastating effects of deforestation. One of the most beautiful aspects about DAK in general is its message of conservation and awareness, and Kali River Rapids is no exception. Plus, who doesn’t love a good rapids ride?
