Group Exercise Classes Are The New Ish

Have you ever wanted to get fit? Are you lacking motivation to plan a workout for yourself? Do you like having people to encourage to do your best? If you answered yes to these, then you should try group exercise classes.

These classes are offered at most gyms. Sometimes you have to pay a fee to go to these classes or sometimes it's included in your membership fee. Some gyms offer more than others, but they all offer many different classes that cater to the needs of all ages and fitness levels.

At Virginia Tech, McComas and War Memorial gyms offer group exercise classes for a small fee that is pretty cheap if you commit to going every week. The classes are taught by Virginia Tech students that have been group exercise certified. They are offered at various times throughout the day starting early in the morning until later at night. This ensures that students can attend a class no matter how busy their schedules may be. Here are some of the classes that are offered:

Strength training classes

BodyPump: BodyPump is a barbell class that works the entire body. It consists of a track for each muscle group where many repetitions are completed to challenge these muscles. You can challenge yourself however much you want by choosing how much weight you add to the bar. This class is usually 60 minutes long, but can be offered as an express class which means it is a shortened version.

Super Abs: Super Abs is a 30 minute class that targets the entire core including abs, obliques, and the lower back. This class uses different equipment and exercises to improve balance and core strength.

Cardio training classes

Cycle: Indoor cycle classes are one of the best cardio workouts in my opinion. Not only does it burn a ton of calories, but it strengthens the legs by using resistance on the pedals. It includes intervals, sprints, climbs, and jumps on the bike. This class is also 60 minutes and is taught in a black-lit studio at McComas on Virginia Tech's campus.

BodyAttack: BodyAttack works on stamina and builds strength. It is supposed to mimic a sports environment so athletic exercises are incorporated into this class. It will be sure to challenge you to get the most out of your workout. This is a 60 minute workout.

Dance classes

Zumba: Zumba is a class full of dancing that doesn't even feel like a workout. The workout is set to Latin American music and other international beats. It is sure to give you a great, low impact workout! Perfect for beginner fitness levels since it is so stress free!

BodyJam: This is another dance class that makes working out fun and stress free! It involves the latest dance moves and current songs that make

Mind/Body classes

Yoga: Yoga classes relax both the mind and body. This class also focuses on flexibility and strength through different yoga positions. It is perfect for relaxing after a busy day.

Pilates: Pilates is similar to yoga as it relaxes the body as well. However, pilates focuses more on core strength. This is a good class to take to unwind from a stressful day.

These are only a few classes that are offered at McComas and War Memorial gyms. No matter your fitness level, there is definitely a class for you. Whether it's dancing your heart out in a Zumba class to lifting weights in BodyPump, there is something for everyone. Group exercise classes improve fitness levels, introduce you to new people and lighten your mood. Try a group exercise class today!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
