I've Always Been The 'Single Friend' And I Love It

I've been told that I'm the best third wheel ever.

I used to think that finding someone to be my boyfriend was my biggest priority. During my junior and senior years of high school, all of my close friends had boyfriends and I'd be lying if I said that that didn't get to me. I used to think it was such a big deal that I didn't have an automatic date to prom or someone to come over for my family gatherings. And to my friends, I am more than happy that you got to experience that. It just wasn't for me.

Now I'm in college and I'm actually more than glad that it didn't work out that way for me and am still not really looking for anyone. I'm still working on me and figuring out this whole college thing. I sometimes can't even make time for dinner in between my classes, choir rehearsals, and homework. I'm not sure I could even make time to constantly text or hang out with someone.

Now looking back, I realize that constantly being friends with people in relationships wasn't all that bad. I actually made a lot of friends because of the guys my friends were dating. It's actually pretty nice to be able to consider one of your closest friend's boyfriend your friend as well. I was also the third wheel a lot, and still am, but it doesn't even bother me anymore.

I've chosen not to be freaked out about being a third wheel and just have fun. Some of the best times I've had have been hanging out with my friends and their significant other. I've actually been told that I'm the best third wheel out there which I choose to take like a compliment.

Sure, sometimes constantly being around your friends who are in relationships can make you feel, well, lonely. But you can choose to not make it lonely. My advice for those girls or guys out there who feel pressure to start dating someone because everyone else is in a relationship is to just not read so much into it.

You'll find someone when you're supposed to. What's the point in forcing something just so you can say you have a boyfriend or girlfriend? I promise you that third wheeling isn't that bad if you're with the right people and that being single can have its perks.

I know I'll find someone someday and that instead of me being the third wheel it'll be a double date. Until then, I'll just enjoy helping my best friends get ready for dates and be happy for them, not jealous.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
