Whether you're Team Dean, Team Jess or Team Logan, you know that Gilmore Girls comes back into our lives on November 25th. For new and old fans alike, this news is huge. After almost 10 years since we last saw Rory and Lorelai enjoying a cup of coffee at Luke's, we get to go back to Stars Hollow once again. Here's the top three things I'm hoping for in the revival, otherwise known as Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life.
1. A concrete update on each character's love life.
We already know that the revival will dive into the romantic interests of Rory, Lorelai and Emily, but there are several other characters that I'm interested in. What number husband is Miss Patty up to by now? Has Christopher started dating again? Do Paris and Doyle have kids? How are Lane and Zack? I need answers!
Of course, I'm #TeamLogan, but I wouldn't be surprised if Amy Sherman-Palladino (ASP) has a different path in mind for Rory. I wouldn't be shocked if she remained single or married someone completely new. I am, however, still praying for a Luke/Lorelai wedding (June 3rd, perhaps?) and I have a feeling that Emily won't remarry or even date again. But who knows? She was 60/40ed at a bar once!
2. New pop culture references.
We already got a little bit of a taste of this in the teaser trailer (which, if you haven't watched it yet, do it immediately. I cried the first time I watched it... and the second. I can't count how many times I've watched it since it was released either, but I have no shame,) but those 90 seconds were filled with recent pop culture references. Rory and Lorelai name-dropped Amy Schumer and John Oliver before discussing the corpse flower (which also just bloomed in New York City, by the way.)
But just think about it for a second. Each original Gilmore Girls episode was loaded with pop culture references, and while they still make us laugh today, imagine how funny they would have been while current. I seriously can't wait to see what ASP has come up with.
3. More quirky quotes
While there are a lot of Gilmore Girls quotes that have made their way into colloquial language (Coffee! Coffee! Coffee!) there are so many other gems hidden in this series, and I'm hoping to get many more in the revival. I'm already going to start using "I like knowing things" AKA Rory's funny quip after Googling something on her smartphone during the trailer.
In all honesty, there's only so many times I can say "In Omnia Paratus" and "I am kayak, hear me roar" before I need something different and Gilmore-esque to live my life by. I've gotten really good at finding ways to drop Gilmoreisms into my daily life, but I can't wait to have more references to add to the collection.
So, I'll be waiting impatiently for the next few months until I curl up on the couch in my Thanksgiving-induced coma (also very Gilmore-esque, so good planning Netflix) with a container of Chinese food and a large cup of coffee. Until then, I'll keep re-watching that teaser trailer obsessively... and maybe restart the series for the umpteenth time.
