Razorback Football On The Hill

Lord, it's hard to be humble.

Being a Razorback fan is a tough job. It's exhilarating, it's nerve wracking and nail biting. And this season, it promises to be nothing less.

Razorback fans are a special group of people. Rarely do you see people just voluntarily start calling the hogs or incorporating 'woo pig' into their daily language. Not many just side with that Arkansas team just because (which can't be said of certain other SEC teams...). No, Arkansas fans stick to tradition, they're invested and they're tied to the hogs for life. They wear their colors and say 'sooieeee' regardless and know that any pregame presumptions about the hogs performance can easily be squandered before the first quarter ends. Sure we have doubts and know that games can go any number of ways, but the crazy fans, current and past students alike, are always ready to hang on through 4th quarter heartbreak and overtime insanity.

We are always underdogs. We rarely get seated, we play tough schedules, and we don't get credit where it's due. But Arkansas fans are always prepared, no matter how 'bad were supposed to be this season.' We are usually the only onlookers believing that games aren't over 'til they're over because the team we are is just so unpredictable. We upset and thrive in stadiums that consider us a by week. We when games we were supposed to lose by three touchdowns. Our boys always put on a show, giving opposing fans a little piece of what it feels like to be on edge every quarter. We go through eight different highs and lows per game and remain both enraged and entertained through every Saturday on the hill.

So we've started off hot; our Razorbacks are busting along at full steam. While our past seasons have been nothing short of a hot mess and upward climb, we know to stay optimistic, to continue to rep cardinal and white, knowing our hogs will soon have a tastier reputation. Because anything can happen when you face that Arkansas team.

It's fun to root for the hogs but it takes a special person: dedicated with a full heart, ready for the unthinkable, the impossible. And it seems that this year, we've signed up for the craziest season yet.

Fayetteville peaks in the fall and our football team follows suit. We live for November and know that there are plenty of Saturdays waiting for the thrill the hogs bring. Experiencing games as a Razorback fan have been some of the greatest highlights here on the hill and the history made on the field will be moments we never forget. It's sometimes hard to watch, but at the end of the day, it's even harder to be humble when you're an Arkansas Razorback fan.

Woo pig and go hogs!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
