The Florida Gators now have four SEC wins and are leading the SEC East after Georgia’s loss last night. If you haven't realized by now, then take notice: the Gators are no joke.
Still unbeaten, the Gators are bowl eligible and poised to remain undefeated. This is no fluke. Saturday’s win against the SEC champions proved the Gators are serious contenders.
The offense performed. Get used to hearing that, seeing as that has been the issue the last few years. Something with this Gator offense, whether that be McElwain or other factors, is clicking. This time, primary focus is on Kelvin Taylor's performance, as he scored against Missouri twice. He scored two quick first-quarter touchdowns Saturday, which gave UF plenty of comfort. The defense just had to do the rest.
At first, the Gator defense looked shocked. The Tigers moved the ball quickly into the red zone and that is when the aggressive Gators woke up. They did not allow a touchdown on that drive and Missouri settled for a field goal. I say settled because that is the only thing the Tigers could land. After that first quarter field goal, Missouri was held scoreless.
The game looked sealed, but Jalen Tabor only confirmed that fact later in the game. Tabor had an interception that he returned 40 yards for a touchdown. At this point in the game, the Gators sat at 21-3, and Missouri knew at that point they were hopeless.
This was Tabor’s second pick-6 of the season, making him the first player since Brandon Spikes in 2009 to have multiple pick-6’s in a season.
As the Gators sit undefeated, I could not be more optimistic for the rest of their schedule. The Gators next few match-ups are LSU and Georgia for the month of October, with a bye week in between. LSU is a little worrisome given the statistics Fournette has been showing weekly, but if the Gator run defense is strong enough, there is no doubt in my mind we have a chance.
With Georgia recently losing to Tennessee, I don’t see an issue with that matchup either. Georgia’s top running back, Nick Chubbs, had a terrible injury Saturday night (Georgia fans, I am sorry and feel for you) so their major threat is no longer a threat.
There is much to look forward to for the remainder of the season and the Gators arguably have a chance to remain undefeated. Regardless, this is a Gator team we have not seen in awhile. The team moves the ball well, defends well and respect the game.
What more can Gator fans ask for?
Each and every game excites me, I have not seen this level of play in a long time. They’ve surprised many, but the haters will soon realize. Seeing as many Greeks will be in LSU next week, the Gators have a little support on their away game, which could only be more beneficial as we chase 7-0. I will be there too, cheering on the surprising Gator team.
Please be safe everyone and be aware, next week LSU is GATOR BAIT.
