Organization. It's a word that intimidates some, and to others it confuses them. I myself always thought "Oh I am so organized, you haven't seen anything like it." Then I got into college, and I realized I was nowhere close to being organized in a manner that I should. So, I tried by organizing myself in different circumstances and manners and here's what I learned. You can't only organize one part of your life. It has to all come together as a single unit. So, here are my top steps to live a better organized life.
1) Find A Space For Everything
Yes trust me, I know this can be hard. I never know what to do with those extra chargers, or those craft items that just don't fit anywhere. Even if it's a junk drawer at least you have somewhere for things to go. I recently reorganized my entire room and bought compartments and now everything has a place and it's not cluttered at all.
2) Schedule Every Day
I changed my attitude and as much as I think I can plan my days out in my head, writing it down helps too. My planner --agenda or organizer if you will -- has become my best friend. I make sure I get the large planners because I write everything down. When I work. When I have class. When I need to do homework. What homework I need to do. What homework is due? So on. Scheduling out every hour of my day helps to ensure that I am not being overwhelmed by constant responsibilities and I have time to schedule out an episode of my favorite TV show once a day to wind down and relax.
3) Set A Morning Ritual
I used to just kind of wake up 15-30 minutes before I have to be anywhere. That put so much stress and confusion to my daily life. Now, I get up at 8am daily. I wake up and make my bed and then eat in the kitchen and then I start the process of getting ready for the day. Since I make my bed it forces me to not want to get back into bed throughout the day, which in turn makes me more productive and feel more organized.
4) Color Coordinate Your Closet
No I am not kidding. I never did this when I was younger until after my freshman year of college. Since I have started color coordinating my closet, getting dressed in the morning is a breeze. I don't have to fumble around looking for that one shirt that matches this dress perfectly and wonder where the heck it is when I am already 5 minutes late to my meeting. Instead, anything that has similar colors is already grouped together so I don't have to worry about looking like a fool at work with blue shirt and mismatched shoes.
5) Laundry Day
Set a day to do all of your household chores. For example, I do my laundry, mop the kitchen, scrub the bathroom and vacuum the floors all on Tuesdays. Having one day out of the week to get all of those chores done means that you can expect to do it on the same day every week and never put something off just because you don't have time. Plus, who likes not having clean clothes.
So there you have it, my few simple steps to living a more organized, stress free life. Everyone needs a bit of balance in their day to day life or we would all go crazy. Take it from my experience. Once you organize your life, the stress drifts away.
