Nobody said being an Eagles fan was easy.
1. I learned how to be dedicated from a young age.
Growing up in Philadelphia and growing up an Eagles fan I quickly learned what dedication was. Whether it was being in front of the T.V. every Sunday or seeing on the news the men and women braving the cold Philadelphia winters to watch their birds fly onto the field. That's how I learned that when you love something you stay faithful to it.
2. I learned how strong the bond between strangers can actually be.
Going to my first Eagles game was definitely an unforgettable experience the tailgates, the sights, the sounds, and the people. Eagles fans-although are the meanest towards others, they are one of the tightest knit group of fans I have ever seen. Their kindness towards each other whether it's sharing some food or warmth. It's really a brotherhood down there, a bond that can never be broken. Even if we don't remember each others names the next day.
3. I learned to take a loss on the chin and be ready for the next game.
"We lost" two words you will say more than once a season as an Eagles fan. But they're two words that don't burn much anymore. You know you will see more press conferences discussing what your team did wrong as opposed to how well they played but that doesn't bother you. Us Eagles fans are as gritty as them come. We take every loss with a grain of salt because we know our boys are coming back next week playing again for us we keep the faith that one day they'll win the game, win the conference, then win the Superbowl.
4. I learned how to defend what I believe in.
Being a fan of any sports team teaches you to be ready to defend what you believe in. But being an Eagles fan teaches you how to fiercely and passionately defend your team against anyone who thinks it's okay to speak ill of them. It runs in our blood, our team is just another part of our extended family. They don't call Eagles fans crazy for nothing.
5. Most importantly, I learned how to revel in a victory but not let it get to my head.
"Fly Eagles fly on the road to victoryyyy," the fight song we sing after every touchdown and after every game we win. Now the Eagles winning a game is a cause for celebration but being a lifelong fan taught me to know that the joy is fleeting. No matter how many games we win it's unlikely we'll have an undefeated season. That being said no matter how big our head gets after we whoop the Cowgirls, we're always called back down to reality with our next loss.
