Peace Isn't In Places Or Things; It's Within Us

Peace: freedom from disturbance; tranquility

Peace is the satisfying feeling that one's world has calmed. It is feeling content in the life you are living. It's something that happens after wars are finished or after one's life went to hell and back. Peace is something that people work their whole lives to find but for some people it seems almost impossible. However, peace has multiple definitions and one's peace might not be the same as yours.

The idea of peace is a hard concept to come by. The world we live in often lacks the humility that gives you peace. The richer get richer and the poorer get poorer. Everyone is wanting what they don't have and are constantly looking up to people who seem like they have everything. So, what does it take for a person to find peace? Is it a final destination? Or is it the point when someone finally says "I've accomplished enough." Sometimes, it's hard to find peace because we are constantly wanting what we don't have. So, we come up with this rule to happiness and that is when we get everything we want. However, if we keep wanting more, we may never get there.

In a way, finding peace is a lot like giving in but not necessarily giving up. It's deciding to focus on what you do have instead of the things you don't. It is focusing on the beauty of the things around you and not the beauty of the things you own. The most important thing in life are the people who love you and the things that bring you peace. We need to start looking at the little things in life. Like a sunset or a forest. The little things that bring us happiness. Usually the humble people are the happiest because they let go of the things that caused them pain.

When we envy, we bring ourselves this pain that we will never be enough. We will never be perfect even when we act like we are. Humility doesn't mean being modest and living a simple life but it's also finding peace in who you are. Being yourself is important, flaws and all. Peace is realizing everything you've accomplished instead of counting your failures.

When it comes to yourself and finding peace within... you need to stop telling yourself that you will never find it. You need to stop telling yourself that you are broken because nobody is ever broken. We don't need to be fixed or altered. Once we stop seeing ourselves as something that needs to be changed, we give ourselves the chance to find peace. Instead of running away from your darkness or flaws, it's best to learn to love yourself there. Take your failures and learn from them. Everything you have gone through and the mistakes you made has made you who you are. You should trust yourself and love yourself enough to find peace because in the end, peace isn't in places or things; it is within a person and it's within all of us.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
