We have all heard of the phrase, "the glass is either half full or half empty." As individuals, we are constantly placing ourselves on one end of the spectrum or the other.
We are either a success or failure.
We are either cool or weird.
We are either popular or a loser.
Why are we constantly categorizing ourselves? Whatever happened to the middle ground? In life, there are going to be high points as well as low points. We cannot categorize the middle ground as a failure point. The middle ground is where you find your true self in the best of times and worst of times. After all, isn't life about finding who you are really meant to be?
The half-empty glass.
Let's face it- there are going to be some really low points in our lives. We cannot deny these low points from happening and we cannot run away from them when they are happening. We also cannot constantly view life like the glass is half empty. This pessimistic attitude will eat away at any piece of optimism we possess. However, without even realizing it, these moments make us who we are. We become thankful for these moments later in our lives when we realize, "Wow, I am so much stronger because of that."
The half-full glass.
We thrive off of the best days, moments and memories of our lives. Being surrounded by your friends and family makes living in these gracious moments one of the best feelings in the world. We are thankful for those moments where we find ourselves succeeding or doing better than the day before. We almost forget what it was like to be in those low points in life. We think to ourselves, "Why did I ever feel that low before? This is the best feeling."
The middle ground.
Most people deny that they can't find their own middle ground; they are either one way or the other and there is no happy medium. Someone who is always sad or always happy is not looking into a part of themselves to find that middle ground.
The middle ground is about learning patience, understanding, and acceptance. As you have seen, the best moments, as well as the worst moments in life, can make us question ourselves. These questions help us formulate the person we are going to be in life. The middle ground is where you are doing the best you can in your life. There is no success nor is there failure. There is only you, what is best for you and what you want to accomplish. That is why the middle ground is so important- because YOU are the only one that matters.
Don't be afraid of the person who you're becoming, embrace it.
