Both aromatic and delicious, coffee runs the world as shown by signs at stores such as Dunkin’ Donut’s who have slogans that play on this such as “America Runs on Dunkin’.” It is one of the most heavily consumed drinks the world over, and there is one primary reason for that: it tastes good (or it has caffeine, choose what you must). Coffee is the drug chosen by college students everywhere to power them through finals week, and to get rid of terrible hangovers.
Many people look down on the bad habits of too much coffee consumption. They cite symptoms such as caffeine dependence to obtain any ounce of credibility. However, little do many of them probably know, there are many benefits that come with coffee!
First off, the prevalence of coffee has provided society with a casual excuse to hang out. If you want to meet up with that one person whom you think is cute, but do not want to go on a date, just “grab some coffee”! This is the mindset that companies such as Starbucks make their fortune on, as coffee shops are amazingly popular for both studying, catching up and enjoying a “hip” atmosphere.
To further justify the coffee addiction, there are many health benefits that are associated with large consumption of coffee. These include anything from an energy boost to helping “protect against type two diabetes, Parkinson’s Disease, Liver Disease, and promoting a healthy heart." Despite the potential benefits, the primary effect that leads to the popularity of the drink is the energy boost that the coffee provides. The benefits of caffeine are proven—higher energy levels and higher productivity. However, it does have some huge pitfalls that include anxiety, heart issues and more.
Despite this, coffee allows a whole world of conversation. Whether it is about how you prefer arabica to robusta, or a latte to an Americano, coffee consumption provides a platform for conversation between peers, businessmen and many others alike, but it provides a whole new basis of discussion in its world of different blends and flavors, origins and methods. It is just as crafty as beer and as sophisticated as wine. Yet you are still allowed to drive after drinking five cups!
In general, if you want an extra caffeine boost to start, or end, your day, coffee is a very good option (outside of a healthy diet!). Unless you hyperload it with sugar, as many tend to do, it is a relatively healthy drink as it is low calorie and it is high in healthy antioxidants. With that, it tastes good and with every cup you buy into the age-old culture that is coffee and that club is pretty cool. Who doesn’t want to drink the stuff that cowboys would drink while on the road! It doesn’t get manlier than that. Even so, coffee is one for the connoisseurs, the entrepreneurs, and the common man. It is delicious and it has a culture that is bought into and enjoyed by many. There is a reason why so much of the American economy is powered by coffee shops!
