Fat used as an adjective, by definition, means having a large amount of excess flesh.
Ugly used as an adjective, by definition, means unpleasant or repulsive especially in appearance.
Contrary to some people's beliefs, the two words are not synonyms and have completely different meanings. Why is it that in today's society the two words seem to go hand in hand. This is disgraceful.
Sure, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I personally believe that all human beings are creations of God that are beautiful on the inside and out. We are all different. Our looks come in many shapes and sizes, but nobody is "ugly". But some people can disagree. Some people might find the looks of others unpleasing or not as attractive as others which in my opinion is wrong but whatever.
Calling someone fat as an insult is quite possibly one of the lowest, inhumane things to possibly say to another person. If you look closely at the definitions, if you are using the word "fat" to replace the word "ugly" you are basically saying that someone who has some excess flesh on them is repulsive. REPULSIVE. How horrible is that? It is mean, sad and just plain ignorant.
I am fat. "Oh no, did she just call herself fat?!" Yup, I did. There is no question about it and no use denying it. However, it disgusts me when I or someone else who is plus sized will say "I'm so fat." and someone who is skinny will respond with "You're not fat, you're so beautiful!" Like are you kidding me!? I did NOT say that I was ugly. I said that I was fat. And just because I am fat does not mean that I am not beautiful. FAT DOES NOT MEAN UGLY.
Also, when a skinny person will say that they are feeling very fat today, sure they may mean they are a little bloated, but most of the time they say this because they are feeling ugly which is horrifying. Say you feel ugly. If you feel ugly but say you feel fat, does that mean you think all fat people are ugly? I hope not, and I'm sure it doesn't, so watch what you say.
Society, us as a whole need to stop using the words fat and ugly as if they have the same meaning. FAT IS BEAUTIFUL. SKINNY IS BEAUTIFUL. WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL. Instead as using words to describe someone's appearance as a negative hurtful thing, start using words to make people feel good about themselves. And stop tiptoeing around the word fat as if it is bad. I am FAT. I AM FAT. This is not an insult, this is just how I am, but you know what? I am beautiful, very beautiful and very happy. Let's end this word association once and for all.
