Fall Break: 50 Pointless Things I Did on Day One

Fall break is seriously a blessing. It gives we pathetic students a few days to calm down after midterms totally wreck us. It's probably meant to allow us to catch up on homework and assignments we missed while we were crazy-person studying for previously mentioned midterms, but I fully believe it is supposed to just give us a second to breathe. So yes, I totally could have spent my first day off doing super productive things and getting ahead on schoolwork, and I definitely thought about it for at least thirty seconds. But I know me, and that was horribly unlikely, and I was right. So, here are 50 things I did on my first day of fall break instead:

1. watched various episodes of Grey's Anatomy

2. horrendlously out of order

3. like jumped from season 1 to 6 to 2 back to 6 to 8 to 5... because why not

4. went to Chick-Fil-A with the roomie for noontime sustenance

5. used my newfound Grey's inspiration to finish my paper on gender role stereotypes

6. started some sociology homework

7. realized said homework is not due until Tuesday

8. put sociology homework away

9. freaked for a second because I thought my statistics test was the Monday we come back from break

10. realized it wasn't

11. breathed large sigh of relief... because I know nothing

12. watched my first episode of this season of American Horror Story alone

13. got up to turn the lights back on because things got a little weird

14. fought with the volume trying to get it louder than my suitemate singing in the shower

15. discovered that a character from an old season of Grey's
is in all that dumb Burger King commercial about giving a house tour of a burger ???

16. discussed AHS and Grey's character thing with roommate when she returned

17. found out she was leaving me to go home tonight :(

18. listened to last week's episode of AHS while absentmindedly scrolling through facebook before I fall asleep

19. decided I needed to clean the room and jumped out of bed

20. organized all of my desk drawers...

21. and desk top...

22. and random space under my bed...

23. and refolded every article of clothing in my room...

24. it doesn't even look like I live here anymore

25. listened to/kind of watched the first two episodes of The People vs. O.J. Simpson just because the tv was still on FX and the noise was comforting

26. it's actually a really good show

27. I may have to watch the rest of it

28. threw some clothes in a bag just in case I can get off work long enough to go see family at some point

29. got my stuff for work in the morning all out and ready

30. had a minor heart attack when demon fridge made a loud noise and knocked my keys around a little

31. seriously, it's scary in here alone. give me a break.

32. decided to go shower in the Payne Center in the morning because the water in Hillcrest is currently not safe to drink, so tbh I really don't want to shower in it either

33. had to look up the Payne's fall break hours

34. was delighted to find out that they open early enough for me to get in there before work

35. realized I was a good bit of the way through an accidental all-nighter at 4:30 am

36. I don't have an actual reason, I guess I got a little carried away with the reorganizing stuff

37. there was literally no reason to stay up. or even get out of bed back in #19

38. decided it was too late to go to sleep now or else I would be late for work later in the morning

39. worked on the puzzle that's been on our floor for nearly a month and a half now

40. don't judge, it's really hard to put together a puzzle of blue dolphins jumping over blud water in front of a blue sky underneath blue constellations

41. everything is blue

42. got "Colors" by Halsey stuck in my head thinking about it

43. gave up on the puzzle for the night (morning?)

44. it can sit for another month

45. wrapped up in a blanket because my room is a literal icebox 24/7

46. made plans to go to starbucks at some point before work tomorrow so the dead do not walk among the living

47. laughed at my own joke while I typed it

48. realized that it is 6 am during fall break and I am writing this instead of sleeping

49. someone please send help

50. this is not how I meant for fall break to begin

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
