All The Things Adults Didn't Tell You About Adulting

By the time you are 22 if you haven't already experienced 22, then you should know that by this age you're considered a REAL adult. Yes, 21 is the legal age of adulthood however at 21 you're expectations are slightly more flexible (depending on the family you come from).

So yes, 22 is around the time that you are trying to figure out what you are going to do for the remainder of your 20 something's (I would say life but that seems a bit dramatic) and most importantly what kind of person do you really want to be? Personally, 22 is the age that I have re-created myself! I have recently moved out of my parents' house for let us pray what will be long-lasting, I have received my first full-time position at a professional job and I have taken a few leaps in my personal life.

22 is the age that I have decided to re-set the standards of my life, because quite frankly the ones I was operating from were not beneficial anymore. Which I believe is to be expected, so from the short period time of that I have been actively challenging myself I have also discovered a couple of lessons.

Growing Up And Switching Up Are Not To Be Confused.

Ladies and gentlemen, these two are NOT one in the same yet, somehow we often speak of such as if the two are interchangeable. However, THEY ARE NOT. Switching up is not be associated with any of the following: setting your best interest as priority, exercising your ability to use the word 'no', protecting your space, moving on from people who are not of good company, distancing yourself from negative or non-beneficial situations and environments, etc.

Paramore said it best "some of us have to grow up sometimes, and so if I have to I'm gonna leave you behind."

All of the things I have previously mentioned are facets of G R O W I N G UP! Keyword is growing, meaning maturing. Now, unfortunately, if you are not experiencing growth than you are experiencing stagnation, it's only one or the two. However, fortunately, growth does not come in one shape and/or form but a vast variety of kinds can occur. Concoctions of all sorts can form to produce the needed manifestation and best of all each type of growth has a season attached to it! I say this all to say that growth is just one of those aspects of life that is completely individualized. Each of us grows at our own pace, in our own ways, by the way of our own experiences. So although, you may not be growing financially, emotionally, spiritually, and etc. as your friends just know seasons of such are on your radar, and every ounce of growth causes for some sort of detachment and/or difficult decision.

Tough Skin Is A Necessity When 'adulting':

Fun fact: a lot of crap hits the fan when you are trying to successfully make strides in your life! It's inevitable because it's all a part of the 'growing' experience. Those moments of detachment and difficult decisions often take place as we are either preparing to leave or have already evacuated the premises known as our comfort. Coddling is not to be expected for those adults trying to create a path for themselves but more so opposition. You have to know when to 'brush ya shoulders' off as Jay-z once said 'get that dirt off your shoulders' and keep your mentality progressing forward.

Adulting isn't a 'phase' that we master but a journey that we take until our time on earth is no longer. No matter the number, you are always aging and growing in wisdom and maturity. So realistically, if you are one to use 'switching up' and growth interchangeably than you should always be hearing comments of the change taking place in your life, for without it there's manifestation of you 'adulting.'

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
