I have been using essential oils for a little over a year now. It is amazing how much they really work and how much they can change your life. They are a great way to improve your overall physical and emotional well being. Here are just a few application tips and some essential oils that i personally use and love.
Important tips on how to apply:
- Hold at a 45-degree angle while applying
- Never touch the bottle to your skin to prevent contamination
- Note: Not all essential oils can be applied directly to the skin
1. Rose Oil (AKA the beauty oil) —
Rose oil has many medical uses including anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants to fight off disease and illness, diminishes scars, treats ulcers and can even help prevent DNA damage. Additionally, rose oil is known to be a relaxant and can help with hypertension, anxiety, viral infections, wrinkles and acne. I personally put rose oil on my face before I go to bed every night and I wake up with glowing skin. You cna even add rose oil to your face lotion to add moisture.
2. Peppermint oil —
Peppermint oil has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory antiviral and anti-fungal properties and it is also used as a digestive stimulant and pain reliever. Additionally, it can provide headache relief, improved concentration and alertness. I personally diffuse peppermint oil in my diffuser if doing work and it makes me feel more alert and focused.
How to use:
- Dilute essential oil with Vegetable oil and apply 1-2 drops on body part that is in pain/inflamed, abdomen or temples.
- Inhale
- Diffuse
- Dietary supplement
3. Lavender oil (my personal favorite multipurpose oil) —
Lavender oil can be used to treat cuts, bruises, burns, bug bites, depression, anxiety, food allergies and alcoholism. It also aids in memory, high blood pressure, concentration, and respiratory infections and can be used as a deodorant or scar reducer. Although I have tried most of these, I mainly use lavender oil as a relaxant and to help fade scars or cuts.
How to use:
- Apply 2-4 drops to location
- Inhale
- Diffuse
- Take as a dietary supplement
4. Eucalyptus oil —
Eucalyptus oil can be used for anti-inflammatory and antibacterial purposes. It can help flight allergies, arthritis, burns, colds, congestion, nerve pains and sore throat. I personally like to inhale this oil or put it in my diffuser when I start to feel sick or congested.
5. R.C. oil (Young Living’s blend of myrtle, marjoram, pine, eucalyptus, lavender, cypress, spruce, and peppermint) —
This oil has been said to relieve the common cold, bronchitis, sore throat, coughs, sinuses congestion, allergy symptoms and snoring.
I personally have used this oil when I have had a sore throat or cough and it works very well!
How to use:
- Dilute with vegetable oil
- Diffuse
- Use as a hot compress over sinus area
- Steam in a boiling water and inhale.
6. Castor Oil —
This oil can be used for hair growth, stretch marks, dandruff, split ends, skin moisturizer, sunburn remedy, lip balm, mild acne, brittle nails, cracked heels, scarring and more. I personally use this oil for almost all of the above listed!
7. Tea Tree oil —
Tea Tree oil contains anti-viral properties. It helps fight dandruff, acne, ulcers and bug bites. You can also use it to disinfects makeup brushes or as a deodorant. I personally use this oil to fight against acne.
8. Argan oil —
Argan oil can be used for anti-aging, stretch marks, body moisturizer, leave-in conditioner and brittle nails.
9. Lemon oil:
Lemon oil can help with circulatory problems, obesity, parasites, UTI’s, anxiety, hypertension, digestive problems and acne.
How to use:
- Dilute with vegetable oil and apply to skin
- Inhale directly
- Diffuse
- Take as a dietary supplement.
Caution: Avoid applying to skin that is going to be exposed to sunlight in the next 24 hours
10. Cedar wood oil —
Cedarwood oil is said to help with hair loss, cellulite, eczema, dandruff, ADHD and acne. It also has antibacterial properties and stimulates lymphatic system.
I suggest that you buy your essential oils from a company that provides essential oils with good quality. I personally like Young Living essential oils. They are more expensive, but they are worth the investment. Young Living essential oils contain the finest and most pure ingredients harvested from plants and herbs that are farm-grown. You should try them out. Maybe these oils can change your life too!
