Good news for anyone who is sick and tired of the snow and cold, spring is in the air! Soon we can put our coats in the closet and wear lighter and brighter clothing. Also, to everyone experiencing early-2000s nostalgia, New Kids on the Block is set to go on tour with Boyz II Men and Paula Abdul in May. But you don’t have to keep telling yourself “it’s gonna be May” to get your fix of Y2K. Some fashion and beauty trends from the last decade have recently made a comeback.
To top things off, a few of my personal favorite tops from when I was a kid are re-appearing in stores. These include the peasant and babydoll styles, (the babydoll can also be worn as a dress), as well as tank tops with spaghetti straps. Other returning trends that I have recently been getting into include off the shoulder tops and crop tops. If you're not entirely sold on baring too much skin, layering is always a great option.
Bottoms up! Some things never go out of style like jeans and leggings. However, it’s been awhile since gaucho pants and denim miniskirts have been seen. The same goes for jumpsuits and one-pieces. Denim on denim and tracksuits such as those from Juicy Couture are also becoming popular. So are skinny scarves, corsets, and dressy flip flops. Keep your eyes out for miniature handbags as well. Same goes for trucker hats and fishnets.
In the beauty department, bob hairstyles are increasingly popular, however a few crimped styles are making waves. Just not as much as Britney and Christina used to. For makeup, smokey eyes have been a recent staple, but the natural look, which is one of my all time favorites, is once again becoming an essential daytime routine. Though for me I never really gave it up.
One of the best and safest trends from the early 2000s is self tanner. The faux glow is a great way to make it look like you spent all day in the sun without damaging your skin. Glowing healthy skin is one trend that will never go out of style.
The 2000s were a great decade in music as well as fashion and beauty. Now go out there in your matching hoodie and sweats and blast your favorite boy band! Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC? A harder question than what to wear.
