The Poor Fashion Choices Of The Early 2000s

We've all tried at least one of these looks...if not more.

I don't know about you, but there are very few pictures of me around the house from the early 2000s. There were some major fashion trends going on at this time as Brittany was flourishing/crashing, Avril was doing her thing, and taping pictures of Aaron Carter to your locker was a lifestyle.

I recently stumbled upon a picture of myself working some brown gauchos with a pink tank top and of course a silver sequin shrug. Finding this hidden gem made me think about all the poor fashion choices we as millennials made growing up before we even knew what fashion was.

1. Gauchos. Are they pants? Are they capris? Honestly, they're neither. They're just a poor choice I made from 4th-5th grade (especially the brown).

2. Ties worn as things other than a tie. I, thankfully, can say I never wore a tie as a belt, but that's only because my dad never let me borrow his ties. If he had, I would have probably looked like this.

3. Shrugs. I definitely owned my fair share. Especially crocheted shrugs. Those were the best. We'd put them on with any shirt or dress to really class up your outfit, but in hindsight looked utterly foolish.

4. Chunky (zebra) highlights. I'm not really sure who in the celeb world began this trend, but I will forever question their hairdresser. This is probably the staple of the early 2000s that I was happiest to see go. If Kelly Clarkson couldn't work it, the rest of us should have never tried.

5. Shorts and uggs. I probably tried to work this look a time or two, but in hindsight, it makes no sense. Is it hot? Is it cold? I mean there's absolutely no temperature that warrants shorts and winter boots.

6. Juicy Couture tracksuits. It wasn't enough that we all had Juicy perfume and the chunky necklaces, now there was the track suit. The jacket wasn't enough, you had to wear the whole suit together.

7. Layered everything. From tank tops to necklaces and even denim on denim, the 2000s were filled with layers. Because one tank top isn't enough. You really need three.

Well ladies, happy 2016. I'm pleased to say that the fashion trends of the early 2000s have come and gone, and we survived. If you can't seem to find any pictures of yourself from this time period- thank your parents. They probably hid them to save you from years of embarrassment.

Here's to the rest of the 2000s, I pray these trends are gone for good.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
