How To Disrespect Your Country 101

Be like Colin Kaepernick.

Just a few days America’s new favorite idiot, Colin Kaepernick, decided he would stand — I mean sit — for all of the oppressed. If he would have done this at some other time, that would’ve been fine (not really) but instead, this guy decides to sit down during our National Anthem. Our National Anthem is the epitome of remembrance for our soldiers from the beginning of our nation until thus far. We remember their sacrifices for everyone and honor those lives lost during countless battles in many wars. Hundreds of thousands to millions of soldiers over the course of our history became MIA. Many who didn’t have a choice died. To name a few ways, some were shot by either machine gun fire or were tabbed in numerous ways. POW’s and MIA’s were tortured throughout the course of our history. Soldiers froze to death, jumped on grenades protecting their brothers, were shot out of their planes, drowned in ships and this doesn’t even cover all of the horrific deaths.

Back to the idiot who doesn’t want to stand up for a nation where white people oppress blacks and other colored people—are you freaking serious? This guy, just a few years ago, was in major heat for calling blacks the “n” word, but now he wants to stand up for the oppression of blacks. Excuse me for a minute, but where is this coming from? Kaepernick’s birth mother and adoptive parents were white and paid for every SINGLE dang thing he wanted. But yet, he wants to stand up for the oppression of blacks. Since when have you been oppressed other than after your immature, ignorant and totally inappropriate publicity stunt, Kaepernick?

I’m not saying you can’t stand up for something, but only because of soldiers who split blood for you do you even have the right to sit during the National Anthem. It’s absolutely disrespectful, to not only to the military and the flag, but also its citizens and those families of the military servicemen and women. I find it extremely awkward that someone who has no apparent respect for “people of color” and loves using racial slurs is all of the sudden against oppression. Doesn’t he think those players he called the “n” word felt oppressed? I feel like this whole thing is him completely contradicting himself. But wait, he hasn’t been getting to play… so really this is a temper tantrum. That’s definitely got to be the reason behind his behavior.

To the readers, like I said earlier, I’m not against any stance for what you believe in, but during our National Anthem, come on, man. By law and by bloodshed, you have the right to sit during our anthem, but it’s not very wise. That action was a big, bold statement that says this “I hate America and everything it stands for.” This, my peers, is why me and almost every American that respects our flag, soldiers, soldiers’ families and the best parts of our country, are pissed at Mr. Kaepernick. Completely and utterly disrespectful. If you don’t like it, here there’s the door; get to stepping.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
