The Difference Between Athletic Girls and REALLY Athletic Girls

As a college varsity female athlete, I have noticed a few discrepancies between people's expectations of female athletes and what we are really like. Many people assume all athletic girls are alike because we enjoy sports. But, there is a very large difference between girls who play sports and girls who eat, drink, sleep, and breathe sports. So, whether you are one of these girls, you know one of these girls, or you are dating one of these girls, let me spell it out for you.

1. An athletic girl gets along with the guys, a REALLY athletic girl is one of the guys.

2. An athletic girl owns some athletic clothing, a REALLY athletic girl only owns athletic clothing.

3. An athletic girl joins a game of street soccer, a REALLY athletic girl starts a game of street soccer.

4. An athletic girl is hungry at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a REALLY athletic girl is hungry 24/7.

5. An athletic girl showers after a workout, a REALLY athletic girl showers after her last workout of the day.

6. An athletic girl watches sporting events with you, a REALLY athletic girl invites you to watch her sporting event.

7. An athletic girl schedules training around her day, a REALLY athletic girl schedules her day around training.

8. An athletic girl takes a water bottle to the gym, a REALLY athletic girl takes a water bottle everywhere.

9. An athletic girl will sometimes be injured, a REALLY athletic girl will sometimes be healthy.

10. An athletic girl cares about how bad she looks when she plays, a REALLY athletic girl cares about how bad she makes the other team look when she plays.

11. An athletic girl thinks about the win, a REALLY athletic girl thinks about her mistakes.

12. An athletic girl cares about the number on the scale, a REALLY athletic girl cares about the number of plates on the bar.

13. An athletic girl borrows her friends' leggings, a REALLY athletic girl borrows her friends' sports bras, spandex, and hair ties.

14. An athletic girl has a couple athletic friends, a REALLY athletic girl has a couple non-athletic friends.

15. An athletic girl has a gym buddy, a REALLY athletic girl has a gym squad.

16. An athletic girl brags about her boyfriend's one rep max, a REALLY athletic girl brags about her own one rep max.

17. An athletic girl pays to play her sport, a REALLY athletic girl gets paid to play her sport.

18. An athletic girl compares herself to other girls, a REALLY athletic girl compares herself to guys.

19. An athletic girl recovers in her off season, a REALLY athletic girl... wait, what's an offseason?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
