Life's Not Always A Piece Of Cake When That's Literally Your Name

See what I did there? Here are some of the most common questions and comments I get about my last name the good, bad, and plain stupid.

Addison Cake

I have realized that as another year rolls in so does another year of new people, and new people bring another round of me answering the same questions. If you haven't seen my name on this article by now you should go take a quick look because when you come back this title will make much more sense to you. In the end, I love my name and wouldn't change it for the world, seriously when I get married I'm hyphenating it (sorry future hubby).

My last name makes me unique and I don't need to use any family tree websites to find my family because I am 99.9% sure that if you have this last name we're most likely related.

1. Is that your real last name?

This is probably the most common question I answer. I get it my last name is different but if I was going to fake my last name I would've picked a normal one like Jones or Smith.

2. Hey, your last name is a dessert!

I already knew that but thanks, Captain Obvious.

3. Addie Cake face!

Oh, this is a clever one. Who knew my name was a synonym for makeup. Do I like makeup? Yes. Do I wear it all the time? No. Are you realizing you've called me this before and feel humiliated? I hope so because you sure made me feel that way.

4. Do you like cake? You kind of have to because it's your name.

Yes, I do like cake and not just because it's my last name.

5. That's such a cool last name!

I sort of knew this already but thanks anyways.

6. You should open up a bakery!

Just because Cake is my last name it doesn't mean i can actually bake one, so no.

7. Addie with the no cake

It was funny the first time but after that I'm annoyed. Double points for you using my last name as another term for ass and making me self-conscious about my body at the same time!

8. Hey, "Cake by the Ocean" should be your anthem!

Well, one, no, I hate that song and two, plot twist, that song isn't about food.

9. Addie Cake sounds like Patty Cake, I'm gonna call you that now.

Please just don't.

10. You must get these questions all the time.

Yes, I do, and now I can add your name to the list of others who tell me this too.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
