So many people may wonder what in fact it like to date someone with anxiety and or depression. How about two people dating who have both issues?
1. No matter how many times they remind you they love you there will always be some doubt or question.
No matter how many times I am told he loves me. I still often wonder if it's true because I simply can't understand how I am good enough for anyone. Which frustrates him at times because he takes it almost as an insult because he thinks that I believe he doesn't care. When in all honesty I know that he does care however, its like there is this constant voice in the back of my mind telling me that everything is just too good to be true.
2. Talking about what is wrong can be more frustrating and angering than anything else.
I honestly don't know why I feel the way I do half the time, so trying to put some sort of rhyme or reasoning behind it is honestly is more frustrating to me than anything else. I mean honestly you could ask me all day why I'm sad and the whole day could be going perfect but, I would still just be an unhappy ball of sadness.
3. Communication is always a good thing to have.
Whether you're in a relationship with someone who is completely healthy and normal or have a partner that has a mental illness talking to them is always a good way to understand more of what's going on in there head.
4. Just because we're dating and our lives are going great doesn't mean I'm cured.
As I have said before even if everything is going perfect when you have a mental illness something will still feel wrong. It may be frustrating and hard to understand and cope with so if your not ready to deal with that kind of burden than don't date someone with anxiety or depression.
5. Mood swings are definitely a thing.
We could be having the most romantic evening ever and then out of nowhere something sad will come to mind or some crazy worry about something completely irrelevant will pop up and then the whole evening is just ruined.
6. My mental state is not an indicator of how our relationship is going.
Just because I'm unhappy or depressed doesn't mean its something you did.
7. Lastly sometimes i just need a moment to cool off and rethink the situation.
Whenever depression takes the wheel its takes sometime to get back on a positive or even bearable mood. I can honestly say when I'm depressed or he's depressed its definitely hard to tolerate either of us.
If someone you know or love suffers from anxiety and or depression the best advice is to just to be there when they need you. However, don't be overbearing.
