Others Create Your Happiness Not You

You believe happiness to be derived from the place in which once you have been happy, but in truth it is centered in ourselves.

We Know Your Dreams

In our world today we have negativity every where we turn. We turn on the news and there is barely anything positive being streamed, we wake up and dread the day, we don't want to go to class or practice, shall I go on? I know being in college can be tough and I am not saying you have to be happy and smiling all the time, but it could help to slap a smile on every once in a while. Being positive goes a long way. Not only does it make you feel better, you can also make someone else's day. Happiness does not derive from materialist objects and it sure does not come from the people around you. Look at happiness like this: you are happy with the friends you have because you surround yourself with those people, not because they are your sole purpose for happiness. You are not happy because of the new iPhone, simply buying things is not happiness. If you are happy based on what you can hold in your hand or buy, you should reevaluate why you are truly happy. Happiness is not a feeling it is a doing. Happiness comes when you change what YOU do!! Here are a few happy habits that can help you wake up a little more positive.

1. Giving- do things for others

2. Exercise.

3. Appreciate what you have.

4. Try new things.

5. Work towards a goal.

6. Resilience- bounce back after something negative.

7. Be apart of something bigger than yourself.

8. Wake up with happy thoughts.

9. Take away the toxic people.

10. Share happiness with others.

11. Believe happiness is a choice.

12. Change your perspective.

13. Laugh a little more.

14. Transform your outlook on life.

15. Don't make one negative person ruin your day.

16. Reinforce positivity.

17. Love yourself.

18. Accept what cannot be changed.

20. Shrug off when something does not go your way.

21. Don't let bad thoughts ruin your day or week.

22. Be nice to everyone.

23. Tell yourself compliments.

24. Be apart of something bigger than yourself.

Not everyday is going to be glamorous, but I hope this list helps you become more positive. We are all struggling so don't feel so bad. We all desire love, happiness, and unity. Its possible to have it all you just have to change your mindset.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
